The Offspring are a band who gained popularity in the mid-1990s with a song about gang violence that said “You gotta keep em separated.” Dexter Holland is the lead singer.

He was in school as a molecular biologist when he was first in the Offspring. He was going to get a PhD but the Offspring became too popular.

He actually went back to school and got his PhD later, in 2017.

Relatedly, Brian May, the guitarist of Queen, has an PhD in astrophysics and his song ‘39 is about the effects of special relativity.

Sorry for all the text, this is one of my special interests I guess. Edited for possibly improved clarity.

      Okay.

      You might find this amusing.

Doc Savage was a fictional character in 1930s and '40s pulp adventures. Doc was a supergenius crimefighter with several Ph Ds and an MD. He had a crew of geniuses assisting him on his globetrotting adventures. He wasn’t musical, but…

“Buckaroo Banzai : Across the 8th Dimension” is about a jet pilot/neurosurgeon/k’ung fu master/rock star who has backup band [the Hong Kong Cavaliers] full of writers, nuclear physicists, deep sea divers, and Jeff Goldblum as a singing cowboy.
