    Do research before buying. I almost pulled the trigger on one before hearing from a bike mechanic that Ride1Up uses proprietary wheel spokes on some models and has poor customer support. Some dude’s bike was in the shop for a month while they fought to get spokes to ship.

    Direct to Consumer can be dicy. If you are going to do a direct to consumer bike, make sure it is simple to work on as many shops won’t service electric bikes for liability reasons.
