as with just about everything else, nothing will done about this if it’s not causing immediate and/or highly visible problems, no matter what happens after decades of exposure. see also sugar, climate change, etc
the plastics industry and everyone who directly or indirectly benefits from the existence of plastic, not to mention the majority of consumers who don’t give a shit, will ensure that nothing ever happens to our beloved plastic
