My takeaway is that its not a penalty because Havertz “initiates” the contact by running past Wan-Bissaka, so its no penalty, but when José was running and happened to kick David Luiz’s knee, it was Luiz who initiated the contact and so straight red. I know that was years ago and rules change and everything, but that red card still keeps me up at night occasionally
I hate how much they clearly just focus on the foot and ignore other circumstances like the shove and straight up just tell him what decision to make.
@Astrealix @ironeaglebird the telling him “what he sees” was surprising to me; thought it would be on the on field ref to judge what they see 🤷♂️. In this fame VaR giveth and taketh away; so glad we got the 3 points.
I’m all for soft pens being overturned. I just want the consistency.
Also United fans complaining about the Højlund one when it was literally just two guys muscling for the ball.
Totally agree, this kind of penalty is given so often as well. It’s the first time I’ve seen VAR overturn the decision. Usually, they just stick to the on-pitch decision.
They should either let us hear it live like in rugby union, or have every VAR decision available after the game. At least we now know there was some kind of reasonably calm logic behind it, so maybe that will reduce the rabid conspiracy theories.
I still don’t understand the subjective view Gillett has that Havertz sought out contact on his next step. PGMOL think that this is not re-reffing the game…
Is this always publicly available afterwards? Would be pretty nice
Also really enjoyed the ref-cam they had somewhere in the states in our pre-season tour there. Should introduce that here aswell
