Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•The recent Star Trek series are often criticized for "not being woke enough", but I've come to feel the envelope they are pushing is much more radical, bolder, and important to our specific time...English
5·10 hours agoI though the main criticism of the new shows was the lack of lighting? I really miss the lighting in the older shows… :(

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•I can be considered Trekkie or just a viewer?English
1·10 hours agoYou can get by with just watching a few of the movies from the original series cast. If you want to get more back story then watch the show. There are episode lists for the original series that likely make it more digestible, but if you watched ds9, did you try to watch “The trouble with tribbles”? That’s the episode the ds9 cast goes to.
I like enterprise over strange new worlds.
I think being a trekkie is not black and white. There are levels of fandom you will likely never reach, which of fine. I consider my self a Trekkie by the definition of I’ll watch nearly anything star trek related (sorry the new kids show is a pass) and will get excited when i can talk to anyone about star trek.
Good luck on your journey!
Where i live alcohol isn’t available in the grocery store. So I basically stopped because I was too lazy to go too a separate store for something I didn’t really need. There are sooo meny other drinks available now that taste wonderful with no alcohol.
If can either get a bottle of wine or a bottle of pom juice. I’m going with the pom juice.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s a cheap purchase that’s completely changed your life?
1·1 day agoAir fryer, i got it for around $20 at bestbuy. I haven’t used my gas range in years. I ended up getting a bigger over for 45 recently to make larger meats without having to cut them. I get the bella pro brand. They are certainly nothing fancy, but very high value for the amount of cooking I’ve done in them. Pork tenderloin, perfect.

2·2 days agoWhile I love a good debate episode of start trek, this one was a missed opportunity to make parallel to some current event. Good otherwise and agree with others that the end was eh, but I’ll take it.

Television@piefed.social•What are you watching and what do you recommend this week?
1·3 days agoStarted Star trek starfleet academy. It’s alright for a school based drama that takes place in the star trek universe. Watchable.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anyone here think smartphones and tech like that kinda peaked in 2019 arnd that time?
3·4 days agoSorry, I referred to car features that we really need. Before 2020 we had functional car interiors that everyone knew had to use and were pretty safe. I haven’t seen much innovation that has helped beyond moving all controls to the glued on iPad behind a subscription.

3·5 days agoFirst episode was a bit rough at the start, but the second and third are pretty decent. While this isn’t really trekking beyond the campus right now, I just wonder where this show will go at it progresses.
Episode three is definitely strong (so far) and keeps pace with the end of episode two. I like that there are a few extras on the team at the end of the episode. Are we getting some red shirts ready? 😃
I’ll be watching for more. 👍

2·7 days agoThe PS3 is still just a bluray player in my eyes, I don’t remember too many people getting one for gaming at the time it was released.
For hdmi to Rca, i just got something chap on Amazon. You can get crazy and go down a rabbit hole, but it worked fine for running my Chromecast and laptop on a crt.

Technology@lemmy.world•The productivity paradox of AI coding assistantsEnglish
42·14 days agoAI is my coding companion as there are so few devs I can discuss my coding problems with due to their lack of understanding. The AI maybe wrong at times, but just toasing ideas back and forth gets my gears turning. It’s my evolved coding duck.

I also want to look into the exit node stuff.
