  • I don’t like Tyson because I feel he preaches an inaccurate version of the scientific philosophy. So many times I hear him saying things along the lines of absolute certainty, because it’s SCIENCE.

Where, we of the true faith, preach: the evidence indicates that this is the most likely to be true, or at least, this model makes predictions about the world more reliably than any other we currently have.

    Amen.

  • While I know that these days, bugs in code can cause real-world harm (personal info leaks, superannuation records lost, lol google), I find it humorous to think of the equivalent, even worse outcomes in my discipline (chemical/process engineering).

“Didn’t do any checks, fuck it, I know this calculation is fire 🔥”

    Later: 🔥🔥💥

  • I do think it’s reasonable to say they are all wrong, but I agree with you, this logic provided in the image doesn’t make sense.

It being impossible for all to be true, doesn’t imply they are all false.

It’s likely they are all false, if you subscribe to the philosophy of science, where without testable evidence, it’s deemed unreasonable to assume something likely to be true.

The (in my opinion) correct opinion is that all religions are very likely false, because none have provided convincing evidence according to the scientific method.

  • I’m on the youngest side of the millennials, when do I inherit, since I often like to phone in, as these days if you want something fixed quick, you’re better off calling (in Australia at least).

Much better waiting on hold for 10 mins than who knows how many business days before the customer service inevitably copy pastes something from the FAQ that doesn’t resolve your problem.

Also, I like to call friends, on the phone. And use SMS 0_0

Again, when can I get my inheritance, thanks haha

Honestly, good on you so much for sharing. The fact you’re not ashamed and willing to share could save someone from the same attack, and as others have pointed out, even the most security minded of us can have lapses in judgement.

I’m really glad you weren’t screwed in the end.

  • As someone who will die on the hill that USC/Imperial is worse than (or the same as) metric in every single way:

Yeah, the British are idiots, and we Australians also use their confusing system too. I hate it.

The ground level is the first level you walk into, this should be 1.

    Expressed another way:

    — 2

Level 2: between floor (the actual floor) (1,2)

    — 1

    Level 1: (0,1)

    — 0, The ground

    Level B1: (-1,0)

    — -1

    Etc

In the international system (the one Americans use) you are concerned where your head is.

The British system wants to know where your feet are.

The American (and many other countries) system makes way more sense.

The ground floor is the first floor.
