If cars don’t like it, fuck em, they aren’t gonna understand traffic from your perspective anyway. (I happen to know somerville and boston biking very well) It’s good that more bike lanes= more bikes on the road but if you’re a strong/skilled cyclist the bike lane should often be ignored.
Another big difference is the $38 billion in subsidies the meat and dairy industries get from U.S. taxpayers…That should also raise alarms.

The answer is here, but you just can’t fight physics. Light needs to come through a lens and hit a sensor. There has to be some significant distance, in relation to the thickness of the phone for this to work. Until camera technology advances and somehow produces a comparatively sharp image, we will be stuck with the bump. It’ll happen at some point I’m sure, but there is a whole bunch of tech that will need to change to get there.

IDK where you were riding… 10 year cycle courier veteran from Boston here with my own anecdotal experience. This could very well be a personal health thing with you. Never had any issues related to the fumes in my throat, or heard of any related issues within the messenger community. If you told me over time that the fumes have a negative impact on healh I’d believe it, but I probably wouldn’t listen to a commuter who rode a tiny fraction of the urban cycling I’ve done personally. I’d be very interested to see a study on long term bike messengers.

I understand resolution improvements but I don’t understand the push for higher framerate for film. In real life motion is blurred when things move, the higher the framerate the less of that you see.
For me it’s awful, the “soap opera” effect or whatever else they call it kills me, like I’m seeing a cgi picture even when I know everything was captured in camera.
24-30fps is the sweet spot for film and TV imho, I have yet to see a good argument for watching regular real time footage at a higher frame rate.
(To be clear - of course high speed footage for super slo mo and all of that has plenty of cool applications)
Her organization failed. As the head of the organization her job is to accept the failure and resign. Doesn’t matter the exact reason, she needs to take the fall. Trump never should have been cleared to speak if his safety wasn’t guaranteed. And I fucking hate the guy, but the secret service fucked up, a whole bunch of them should probably be fired, top brass first. Absolutely absurd to imagine they should keep their job after this. Normal people get fired for undercooking chicken, missing a day of work or delivering a package to the wrong place, what are we protecting here?
She should get a promotion maybe? Some extra paid vacation time to sort it out and deal with all the extra stress? Several people are in here with this ridiculous take, I don’t get it.
She failed as the head of an extremely important high stakes organization. She no longer has the faith of those she reports to. Should have offered her resignation the day after it happened. That would have been at least been honorable, anything less is ridiculous.
I’m definitely not trying to victim blame by any means, my apologies if it came off that way. You’re absolutely right, sounds like the driver was 100% to blame and cyclist happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I did not intend to imply that this particular accident was the result of a skill issue , and looking back I can see where it might sound like that. I know far too many strong cyclists that will never be the same after accidents in Boston.
The amount of disctracted drivers on the road is scary for sure. I love riding in the city but I’m also thankful that it is no longer my job.
