I’ll second the kingrinder k6. I use it for my daily routine, and mostly make French press and moka pot, which seems pretty on brand for your use. It can go extremely fine or more coarse. Grinding on finer settings takes a little extra work, but grinding an 18 gram dose of beans on 90 click seeing for use in a French press takes about 45 seconds to a minute. I can have a French press or moka pot fully prepped for hot water before my kettle boils, so I don’t find the time to grind an issue. Also, manual grinders are quieter if that is an issue with early morning brews and others still sleeping.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can anyone recommend some warm winter dog boots for a very cold weather in northern Maine?
2·1 month agoSo much depends on what the specific conditions are. Someone else mentioned socks with ruffwear outers, and that also worked well with me ski mountaineering with my dog in the Cascades. In the winter I also had to keep his feet coated in musher’s wax, and vary layers based on conditions. But setting out with a tin of musher’s wax, socks, and outers for the paws should let you handle most scenarios. Musher’s wax is a good fallback as well in the event a booty is lost and you need temporary coverage for a quick run to shelter.
Was she asking for an estimate? Scientific/Sophisticated Wild Ass Guess (SWAG) is pretty common in project management, government, and some corporate environments.

Privacy@programming.dev•‘End-to-end encrypted’ smart toilet camera is not actually end-to-end encrypted | TechCrunch
3·2 months agoYeah, I guess they could use the term point-to-point like point of sales systems define it, but it seems a little semantic. If the images are encrypted on the camera device, and only decrypted once the contents reach the secured analysis environment, then I don’t see how this is misleading customers. Even in the context of messaging apps, users understand that the receiver can decrypt and see the message; it’s saying that no intermediary party can.
But good grief, I can’t fathom putting a camera in my toilet. I feel bad for folks that are either too worried about their health, or have such issues that this is helpful. There but for the grace of fiber go I.

politics @lemmy.world•Newsom floats withholding federal taxes as Trump threatens California
20·8 months agoOne way would be the actual taxes paid on state, county, and municipal employee salaries. That’s going to represent a large source of federal taxes that the state could divert. I’m sure there are other taxes paid by the state that could be withheld.
I never knew! I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks!
An online chess with fog of war so you can only see adjacent tiles would be pretty hilarious. Could really turn an end game king chase into a “battleship” esque fiasco.

Games@lemmy.world•How many games do you manage to play at the same time?
3·1 year agoIf you get paralyzed picking which story game to play next, maybe getting really picky about which ones make the list and then literally roll the dice or use an RNG generator to pick one. If they are all good, and your gameplay spread across a long time with work and kids, then any “mood” you are in, in the moment, will be averaged out over time. If you get into a game and find it really just isn’t for you, give yourself permission to move on.
In short, make the decision less consequential to avoid paralysis. That was my method anyway, being in similar situation with life time constraints.
Did you need to do any permitting?

Being an IT auditor is largely just working with spreadsheets, leverage your prior knowledge, and you are never on the hook for a feature release. If you are good at writing reports, spreadsheets, and meetings, you might give that a look.

Games@lemmy.world•Is Elder Scrolls 6 doomed to fail? I can't see how it will work
7·1 year agoI remember buying mistmare on cd back in 2003. That thing was a broken mess of a game that crashed constantly, and no returns once you open the seal. Kids these days don’t know what a 1/10 game really is, lol. That game was so bad most of the (short) Wikipedia page on it is about it’s low scores, including a 0/10.
I suspect the people are also confusing percentile, like for standardized tests, and top % like this site uses.
But yeah, real big “if those kids could read they’d be very upset” energy with these posts, lol.

RPGMemes @ttrpg.network•I do not think any of you actually played 3.5 you praise so much
6·1 year agoSo it depends on the spell, but I think you are talking about summon nature’s ally. That allows you to give instructions to creatures who can understand, and they will fight to the best of their ability, but as a DM I wouldn’t interpret the spell as written to include suicide.
But even then, a good DM doesn’t put a tarrasque into play and have it sit there and die. Once it realizes it is getting damaged and can’t retaliate, it can burrow from we whence it came, etc.
So I think most of the strategies involve weak roleplay from the DM, munchkin builds, liberties with the rules, or both.
Even then, actually killing the tarrasque requires a wish spell, which is not something that a 9th level druid can do.

RPGMemes @ttrpg.network•I do not think any of you actually played 3.5 you praise so much
111·1 year agoYeah, I ran campaigns from first through 3.5, never really played 4th or 5th. I’m curious how 3.5 tarrasque is easy to beat with anything other than broken munchkin builds from conflicting source materials that no sane DM would allow, or would be reserved for epic level campaigns. Like sure, when you get to a point where you can casually cast things like hellball, then things like the tarrasque might be easy. But at that point you will be doing the tango with the outer realm creatures and Demi gods.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How exactly does one eat 1500 calories a day?
1·1 year agoMuscle mass burns more calories at rest but the effect is very slight. Eating back any calories from exercise will absolutely outweigh any slight change in base total energy expenditure.
Focus first of what you eat, then sustainable exercise, then specific tuning of both.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How exactly does one eat 1500 calories a day?
1·1 year agoLike the other person said, getting the ratio and amount is more important than the source. But you should ask yourself why you are taking the supplement? Are you sure you’re not getting enough from your food? Your body can really only prices 20-40 grams of protein at once, so if you are loading up more than that at a time, you are just piking on calories.
Personally, depending on your current weight, you might think about focusing more on weight loss than bulking muscle mass. Absolutely work out of it is helpful, but don’t worry about mass gains while trying to lose fat. You will develop muscles regardless of whether you micromanage your protein intake or not, and you can optimize better after losing some fat.
But again, you need to check, with, and measure the calories in every portion of food until you develop an accurate read on the calories in things. Like peanut butter having about 100 calories per tablespoon (half ounce).

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How exactly does one eat 1500 calories a day?
6·1 year agoI’ve read through your comments, and highly suggest a food diary for at least a couple weeks ago you really understand the calories in things you are eating.
Yes, your body does modulate its resting metabolic rate over the long term based on things like average daily exertion, food, etc, but that is largely inconsequential to weight loss.
As a rough guideline, you want about 50% of your calories to be carbs, preferably the fiber or complex variety, 30-35% protein, and the rest fat. If you run a lot, then a few more carbs. If you lift weights a lot, then a little more protein.
Protein will help you feel fuller, longer, so I like to go my ratio of protein a bit.
Meals that I enjoy: steal cut oats and peanut butter, pan seared tofu with salad and a light dressing, bean chilli, tacos or tostados using those low carb tortillas, bowl of rice, refried beans, salsa, and guac, etc
But you really, really need to have a good understanding of portions and actual calories. Most people are way off.
Edit: also, some fasting cardio, like a good brisk walk or jog in the morning before eating anything can help accelerate things. But don’t fall into the trap of eating back the calories you burn.
