I have no idea how [somehow gets randomly keyboard hijacked to type][somehow gets a file open dialog][to address bar] this got posted to aww, and somehow REPOSTED to the same thing. What. This is what I consider a network burp. Or maybe my PC is possessed! Sorry, ff, I dunno, I just wanted to do some turtle posting 🐢
Do not talk to me about Dawkinsian sense, I was there where it got Elevated. /meme

Doesn’t matter if it’s a Wikipedia screenshot, it’s a Wikipedia screenshot documenting an ancient meme. Like how the pic above is a widely propagated meme about a video game scene that actually refers to Dawkinsian stuff. Geddit?
…Uh, I frankly don’t know what you’re talking about. I believe we’re having some kind of a fundamental failure of a communication going on around here.
I’m in Finland. There’s this pizza/kebab/burger thing I go to sometimes. When I order burgers from there I always get flabbergasted. The burgers are massive. Huge. Cooked to perfection. Mini fry trays of fries, with way too much dip sauce.
You know things are top notch when you just resign your McDonald’s expectations, admit in your sinful mortal heart that you were humbled, go pick up a knife and fork, and start attacking this behemoth.
So when I’m done, I’m impressed.
I expect that this is the baseline standard in America.
…And then I see stuff like this.
W- I don’t even know how to articulate this. What’s going on. Crooked fucking burgers, stuff just slapped on the board… w- I- um-…
WHAT.
Have I been lied to. What tragedies are happening in America that I am not being told about.
Day n+1 of me screaming “what the fuck is going on in America”

A lot of people are going to say “hey, real food photography is complicated and costly”. I’m a photographer, yeah, I believe it can be tricky to get a nice proper and appetising photo of a dish that is so good that you can actually use it in a high profile print ad.
But for web based menus, where most people just see a thumbnail size photo anyway, it really doesn’t take all that much to take an adequate photo. The photos shown here could have easily been taken on crap smartphones - you know, if they had done them in real life.
Also, you could just use a stock photo. Maybe it doesn’t match the real product, but neither does the AI image.

Well, that particular federation can’t be mad at yt-dlp right now, because PornHub support is broken right now. It appears. I’ve been told.

It’s functionally a killswitch, yes, but it’s presented as a confusing mess. Enabling a disabling is still silly no matter what.

For the record, I know it was marketed as “AI killswitch”. I know it functions as one.
But it’s still hella confusing as presented in the configuration! Don’t do double negatives! If your design goal is “disable everything”, maybe give the users the option to, I don’t know, “disable everything”.
“It’s called a shovel,” said the Senior Wrangler. “I’ve seen the gardeners use them. You stick the sharp end in the ground. Then it gets a bit technical.”
—Terry Pratchett: Reaper Man
It’s literally already documented that ESL speakers and people from outside US/UK sphere get flagged by this stupid “AI detection” nonsense more often. Because they know more uncommon words.
To my brethren: Stay resolute. Nay, your vocabulary training was not in vain. Never diminish your communicative abilities merely due to prevailing idiocy. Signed… (Verily, never mind, I shall use proper punctuation for this one.)

“Come, Muse, let us sing of rats!”
—James Grainger (1721-1766)
(Except in modern day, it’s the Muse who is the rat, obviously. This timeline is stupid)

Yeah except CRTs had terrible resolution per price. Also CRTs asplode - was terrified of them setting the house on fire. Also they radiated. (Old joke that doesn’t translate well: They caused compli-, impli- and mutations). ALSO they’re not really manufactured anymore, so yeah!
Old Russian scifi: welcome to the crapsack post-apocalypse. It’s strangely similar to the current day. So, the protagonists do what current day people do: grim philosophical brooding.
Current Russian scifi: Awesome Russian soldier dude gets isekai’d to World War 2 and defeats the evil Western bastards. Help the author is trapped in Putin’s book factory send help
Alleged criminal: “Uh, I didn’t actually spend the $30. Here, you can have it back.”
Police: “The media circus is already on, buddy. You’re going to do 20-to-life now!”
Yeah, sweet old grandmas already know how to cook, they don’t need AIs.
One day, I need to recreate a dish my late grandma did. Probably simple, but very nostalgic at personal level. I don’t think AIs are much help here.
There was some AI ad where someone pointed their camera to their messy shelf and were like “Hey, how do I clean up my shelf?” and the AI was like “try rearranging the smaller items first” and about a billion people went “no shit”.
Well, it works like this. The same way it worked back in the day, really.
Take a look at this processor, MOS 6502. Don’t need to know much about integrated circuits to notice that, oh, it’s got that kind of squares up there, that kind of squares down there.
Now take a look at the processor in the Nintendo Entertainment System, Ricoh 2A03/2A07, with its integrated sound synthesiser. Oh look, there’s a familiar shape in the bottom right corner!
Edit: I have no clue why this was downvoted. Was just trying to offer a hopefully helpful visual illustration of how stuff is integrated on CPU silicon. Would be pretty much difficult to do this with modern CPUs. Sorry if this was annoying or vague
