Honestly, QPS should be ashamed of themselves here. They repeatedly fail to even attempt to do anything about cyclist safety. Even when they are literally handed the evidence. They know about multiple dangerous locations with frequent failure to follow the law for the sake of cyclists’ safety.

And instead of reflecting on that and trying to make a change for the better, they’re arresting someone who took matters into his own hands, in as small a way as that might have been. If the story is to be believed, every single “victim” of Mr Heyen’s “crime” had themselves first broken a far more serious law. Mr Heyen caused some superficial property damage. His “victims” endangered lives. Fuck QPS.

I hope one day, down the track, we get some awesome quotes from this Glen Thomas Heyen about what he was thinking at the time.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

A Queensland treasury bureaucrat has faced court, charged in relation to a string of car keying incidents on one of Brisbane’s busiest bike routes.

Police allege a number of cars were scratched by a cyclist on Sylvan Road in Toowong between May and August this year.

The road provides a link between the Western Freeway and Brisbane’s CBD, and is frequented by cyclists, particularly for the morning commute.

Statistician Glen Thomas Heyen was charged in August, with four counts of wilful and unlawful damage of vehicles.

The 60-year-old from Kenmore faced court on Monday, where his case was briefly mentioned.

Officers arrested Mr Heyen after police made a public appeal for information in August.
