I’m toxic cause I made a joke at no-one’s expense and got a severely disproportionately adverse reaction?

What does your comment here even add to this community? You’re just needlessly punching at someone because they made a joke people didn’t agree with which insulted no one. My joke, while many people didn’t like it, still got people to talk about star trek and add to the participation of the community. On the other hand, your comment just adds needless vitriol and has nothing to do with star trek.

To me, it’s very clear that this community, with your help, exudes toxicity. I just wanted to join in on having fun with star trek and got downvoted to hell for it and comments at my expense. Even comments like yours which only add toxicity to the community are being rewarded with upvotes.

I’m mildly interested to hear how that is not solid evidence of a toxic community, but not from someone who immediately jumped to kick me while I’m down because I called out the community for their toxic behavior nor the people who would reward such behavior.

You threw out a joke that didn’t land. Which is fine, it happens all the time.

Your reaction to that joke not landing was really bad. And you deserve a little bit of pushback for being so butt hurt about people not liking your joke. And the angrier you get at everyone else, the more you push yourself out of the conversation.

We like Star trek, we like jokes, we’ve all made jokes that didn’t work before. Just let it go and move on.

I’m not upset about it not landing, logically more jokes fall flat rather than land. Instead I found the severely disproportionately adverse reaction to be very distasteful.

Don’t particularly agree with a comment? Don’t upvote it. Just move on. And that is what non-toxic communities will do. Downvotes are essentially saying “this does not belong at all” because they are taking the time to act rather than moving on.

And again, I received some very toxic replies, including from OP which were immediately upvoted, though some of those were deleted.

These things together signal a toxic overall attitude, and particularly so when met with even more toxicity when calling it out, like your comment.

the more you push yourself out of the conversation.

I really don’t care if I am making things worse by retorting with reasoning and logic. Y’all already burned that bridge. Would a Klingon care that a Ferengi disapproves of defending his honor? Why would I care that toxic people disapprove of me pointing out their toxicity?

Hopefully this community pushes out this toxic behavior, which can really only happen by calling it out and using downvotes appropriately.

You asking others what their comment adds when you’ve been ranting and raving a day after you claimed you wouldn’t participate here is telling.

As you condescendingly told the guy who didn’t properly screenshot his /c/privacy issue last week, “You can do better in the future”.

You asking others what their comment adds when you’ve been ranting and raving a day after you claimed you wouldn’t participate here is telling.

It’s not and you have provided no reasoning as to why. Saying things out loud does not make them true. Am I wrong in wanting to defend my claim that I am experiencing needless toxicity in this community with reasoning and logic?

I just threw out a harmless joke and got rude replies thrown back into my face which were supported by others. I called out that toxic behavior and got even more toxic responses which also garnered support by the community. Some of the toxic comments were deleted. Here’s one that OP deleted (I wonder why):

I have a small amount of optimism that by pointing out this toxicity and backing up my claims may lead to an improvement in the future, or as you quoted me saying before “You can do better in the future”. Then again, maybe not and I could be wasting my time, but I think should at least try.

There are far better uses of your time than white-knighting perceived toxicity in such a tame thread. It’s not even your thin skin or this supposed disagreement in what’s toxic and what isn’t that gets me.

It’s your blatant hypocrisy in an “I’m taking my ball and going home” style statement only to write paragraph after paragraph of self-serving bullshit afterwards, calling a community out and THEN trying to justify your actions in post after post. If you’d just left and not gone edit/response wild, we’d be done long ago…but I think you just NEED to get the last word. We’ll bud, it’s all yours, we’re moving on.
