As a 10+ year Reddit user, I recently made the jump here to Lemmy and was hoping to re-join some of the old groups. Is there a running list somewhere of all the groups on here that started as subreddits?
What’s the right term for them, anyway? Group? Sublemmy? Community?
Check sub.rehab for a list. A few of them are official (the old Reddit mods are the new mods of those communities), while some are spin-offs (comms created for the same purpose as the original).
The site above is listing alts elsewhere, too - raddle.me, kbin.social, even Discord. Note that you can often access Kbin content from Lemmy and vice versa.
The right term is “community”. Personally I shorten it to “comm”, have seen other people doing it but it isn’t that common. I’d advise you to avoid “sub”, as plenty people call it out as “Reddit thing”.
Also, please keep in mind that this community is about Reddit, not Lemmy. You’ll probably get better answers in a comm about Lemmy itself, such as !lemmy_support@lemmy.ml
There was a tool being promoted a couple of days ago that sounded like it would help port your Reddit account over to lemmy by (I’m assuming) looking for identically named communities and subscribing to them. I went scorched earth on Reddit and deleted my comments and accounts, so I didn’t look at it beyond thinking it was a good idea.
I wish I could remember what it was called, but knowing that it’s out there might help you to track it down.
Thanks! If you happen to remember, let me know.
I thought about nuking my account, but I have some good info for some niche shit on there that could be helpful to people (but also stuff I can quickly find and reference when needed).
I’m gonna keep my account live, but cut way back on its usage.
Also, hail yourself! 🤘🏻
It might have been https://sub.rehab that was mentioned (you can migrate using their Settings page apparently). Their FAQ also mentions alternative sites (mostly just big static lists by the look of it).
Or it could have been an app - Voyager for instance will take a big list of your subscriptions as a MultiReddit and sub you to Communities with the same name.
All of my accounts were banned recently, so I’m here for good, but would really like to find similar communities. The lemmy concept I’m using is a mobile version called connect since I don’t use the computer basically ever. I’m hoping to learn more as I go.
sublemmies
#communities*
Too bad, it’s sublemmies from now on
Next you’ll be asking me when the narwhal bacons
There’s this, though I don’t think it’s been updated in three months: https://www.quippd.com/writing/2023/06/15/unofficial-subreddit-migration-list-lemmy-kbin-etc.html
This is a solid start though. Thanks!
Lemmyverse.net is definitely the best universal search option. You can even set your home instance so all the links open properly for you
Lmao it’s all good. I didn’t even realize they were all from you 😂
I know there is a Lemmy Community Search but I don’t know if a dedicated list for moved subreddits exists. Unless you ask the original mods from reddit or find a link it is almost impossible to say.
Also I believe they are called communities?
Would also be interested.
