translation : dal = lentils, chawal = cooked rice, dal-chawal = cooked lentils & rice (no vegetables, meat or eggs).

Today is the 90th consecutive day of ethnic and communal genocide in Manipur. The state has experienced 89 consecutive days & nights of violence & terror. The nature of the violence has changed, but the violence has not stopped. Every moment is lived with fear of the other side attacking. Manipur is a war zone where no one is safe.

Since civilians have fled their homes and taken shelter in relief camps, the genocide has become a David v/s Goliath civil war that is being fought with guns, high-powered automated rifles, bombs, mortars which have been smuggled from neighbouring Myanmar or “stolen” aka taken with tacit support of police, from police armouries. Meiteis are backed by Chief Minister Biren Singh’s govt, admin, and police/ commandos, while Kukis are supported by civilian support from neigbouring states. The Asssam Rifles has acknowledged the unequal nature of the situation.

Manipur state is effectively split into 2 ethnic zones. each zone exclusive to either Meitei or Kuki ethnicity. The Meitei zone is Imphal valley, the heart and capital of Manipur, while the Kukis have taken shelter in the hills. Each zone is exclusive to the ethnicity & religion, where people of other
ethnicity & religion are neither welcome nor safe. This violent otherization a direct result of Chief Minister Biren Singh’s polarizing politics.

India’s elected Prime Minister refuses to address Parliament for fear of being questioned, refuses to addressed the nation on Manipur refuses to take steps to end the violence, refuses to appeal for peace. He’s too busy giving speeches against the opposition in state election campaigns. So he and his Hindutva agenda can return to power to create & spread violence, while passing laws that imperil people & profit businesses.

The opposition si trying to force the unwilling Prime Minister to discuss Manipur in Parliament and one fallout is the a severe clampdown on news coming out of Manipur to hide/ minimize the increasingly grim genocide-turned-civil war ,that too in a sensitive border state.

Biren Singh continues to be Chief Minister, of Manipur (only he acts like he is Chief Mnister of Meiteis), Amit Shah continues to be India’s Home Minister, and Narendra Modi continues to be India’s Prime Minister. If not for the Assam Rifles & BSF, the situation would be much worse.

Meitei groups continue to openly call for violence against and genocide of Kukis. The Nagas (a ethnic tribe), Assam Rifles & BSF continue to be the only neutral parties and are the only ones preventing a more devastating escalation. The state govt continues to be a govt of, for, and by Meiteis.
