In recent weeks, a group of Black Christian faith leaders met with White House officials and members of the Congressional Black Caucus, voicing concern about the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza after Israel’s ground assault into the region.
Why polarise and specify black? There are possibly more practicing black Christians than white, Jesus was not white, yet everywhere else we just say Christian.
Because in the US religion has largely been split along racial and ethnic lines. The Black Churches here are institutions that grew out of both the slave and free black congregations in early US history. These differed from other churches by emphasizing freedom and liberation as rewards for faith. It’s also why the Southern Baptist Convention is separate from the northern one.
It has nothing to do with Jesus. It has everything to do with modern history.
Because the people involved are specifically black Christian leaders appealing to the Congressional Black Caucus, which is an official political group?
Some people will use the approach of segregation when it suits, The objective of this article appears to be just that. Specifically, if you’re white Christian, you might not need to worry.
