I think that our numbers would look pretty good. There’s just the Muslim knife attack at the supermarket a few years ago and the occasional case of an Asian killing another Asian and stuffing the body into a suitcase. On the other hand, every few months in the UK or Europe somebody is stabbed by an immigrant or ran over in an ISIS inspired vehicle attack. In New Zealand we don’t seem to have these issues. I’m more worried about being killed by a drunk driver.
Trump’s reaction to this shooting is understandable. The American wars have an unusual feature - we bomb people and make them hate us, and then we invite them to live with us in our countries. This is obviously a huge mistake. These Afghans work for the CIA and special forces then massacre their ‘employers’ at the least predictable moment. A common feature of the occupation which is often forgotten.
We need to keep stats on every demographic and figure out whether or not natives or immigrants commit more crimes and more violent crimes. If it turns out that NZ born people commit more crimes and more heinous crimes then we should take severe action against NZ born people and invite more immigrants right away.
We can’t just cut people slack because they were born in NZ instead of being born elsewhere.
