I wonder if I can cut the middle man out and get chat gpt to write me medical notes so I don’t have to Goto my doctor. Maybe get myself a nice prescription of medical cocaine.
Here you go.
So why does that sick note from your doctor say, “As a large language model, I can’t actually diagnose your medical condition. But here’s a note I might write if I were your doctor…”
I don’t see a problem with anyone using AI to write whatever, as long as they check what’s been written is correct.
But it’s not just about what’s correct. Eg, I have a splinter in my finger. There are multiple solutions, including:
- remove splinter
- remove finger
- kill me
But only one of those is really appropriate from my perspective …
Kinda similar to the Chicken & the Pig, where the patient is committed, but the AI and doctor are merely involved.
I feel like if you’re too lazy to write a medical note you shouldn’t be a doctor.
I’m not defending the use of AI by doctors but this comment feels a bit harsh. I wouldn’t call our medical staff lazy, they’re overworked and burning out. Maybe they were just trying to be more efficient with the limited time they have.
I agree. The problem is systemic, so I think the solution should be fixing the system rather than technological. But sadly the former is much harder.
