  • There is a growing tide of discontent as an entire generation foots the damage and bills of their predecessors. Until Labor finds a backbone and makes real, sweeping reforms in places where it actually matters to the majority of Australian families (complete tax overhaul, for one. Proper housing reform for another), they will continue to flounder. They had the opportunity to make large reforms, picked the wrong one to start with (voice), bungled it, and are now frozen with fright.

The tragedy is that even if they get another go at it, I have little faith that the current cabinet will change their mediocre, middle-of-the-road strategy of minimal impact. As Whitlam rightfully said, Labor is the party of reform and as soon as they stop being that, they are dead in the water.

  • My only gripe is pretty straight forward: the cost to play.

I LOVE draft, but have been unable to play it on Arena due to the high cost of entry. They allow standard play for free, but paywall draft. I know I can technically grind dailies to get enough gold, and then if im lucky enough and win enough I can earn enough back to chain another draft, but this is eventually a losing game, a bit like a slot machine.

I just have zero interest in grinding standard, and refuse to pay almost as much as physical draft for non-tangible, digital version. It feels very predatory.

  • Actually nothing, turned out fine. Just experimenting with how much of a noticeable difference it makes giving the yeast a few days head start on the wort without the fruits.

There’s a lot of ‘folk wisdom’ in the brewing world I’ve found. Recipes which claim “you must do X” or “if you don’t do Y, it won’t work”. So I like to test different theories and see what’s true and what’s superstition.

  • I was ambivalent to the play boosters change because it was just the culmination of what we had seen coming for years… increasing the cost of the game for us players.

‘Project booster fun’ was always about asking the question “how fast and far can we push the price-point up for boosters?” They threw a bunch of options out, tested the water, and ultimately decided enough players would pay the higher price-point for the same cost to print. Pure, unfettered greed.

Magic was already expensive enough as it is. I won’t be forking out for in-person drafts at the new price. Bootleg cards serve my playgroups needs at a fraction of the costs. Greedy WotC execs don’t respect players? We shouldn’t respect them.
