The gift he would choose himself. At least if this Australian 1950 advertisement is to be believed.
From the 25 November 1950 edition of Australian Women’s Weekly.
When making up your Christmas list, pan to give your man a new Gillette Razor Set … give him shaving comfort for life. The famous Gillette “Aristocrat” ONE-PIECE is the finest razor ever devised for the handiest, easiest, fastest shaves. With it, blades are changed like magic. TWIST – the razor opens! In goes the blade! TWIST again – it’s ready for use. There are no loose parets to assemble or mislay.
He’s a head shaver, for anyone wondering.
Bald Santa confirmed by Gillette 😄 Perhaps also a body shaver… Safety razors work a wHo-Ho-ho-le lot better for that too 😉
I bought one of these a few years ago (from wilkinson not gillette) and it has been great. I get a smooth shave, its easier to clean than a disposable razor, and I find one blade will last as long as a pack of diposable tips if not longer. I will never go back to disposable razors.
I still use disposables as a final shave when I want to get real close but yeah these are my workhorse ones now and allows the disposables to last to the point the handle tends to break before they are worn out. I have to say I like the screw attach over the pod bay doors designe like this one.
I like the door style here, I loosen it up then rinse the blade. I haven’t tried the other style so I am biased.
it could be the particular brand I have for door style vs screw but my screw seems to shave better. My theory is it holds it down tighter.
I do find myself snugging the screw mechnism every few passes as it does seem to loosen up some.
I have to do it at the start of each but then im good for the shave. Granted though I put it on loose to dry.
Given that the Aristocrat razors have stood the test of time, I guess it’s a Christmas gift a lot of men would still appreciate today. Especially in such a nice box!
I don’t know how well the Gillette butterfly style work but I’m using a Gillette from 1929 I think with the three parts that you have to disassemble each time and it works so much better than the butterfly styles I was using before, but, those were cheap ones, I’m sure the Gillette is better.

Are these prices 1950 aus shillings? trying to make sense of it, thanks.
Gillette when from give “him” a guillette to “toxic masculinity” and pushing for woman using “his” guillette, they can eat shit for all I care.
