What sets Mario Kart 8 far above its competitors such as Wacky Wheels is the ability to use the controller as if it was a steering wheel. What other games support the same? Do I need to procure a WiiU for myself to play Mario Kart, or is there something else I can do for the same effect?
You should also look into steam input, where most games can have gryo remapped to joystick like inputs. I’ve done this in Ring Racers but I don’t personally use this feature so Im not sure how adequate it is.

You can buy a physical copy, rip the game and emulate it. Making a single backup and storing the disk for safekeeping is legal in the US. Check your own laws.
Cemuhook will allow you to pair an Android phone with the game, providing motion input. Most controllers are compatible. I play holding the phone under the controller. A used phone is fairly cheap. If you do not own most of the things needed to make this happen, a used Wii U may be the better bet.
