What’s your favourite date to start from the vanilla ones?
Mine’s usually 867 as it has a fair balance of Pagan, Christian, and Muslim religions in Europe. The Abbasids also make it interesting for the Iranian Intermezzo. I often use tweaked game settings to avoid border gore by the Karlings, but there’s still plenty of fun to witness - like Brittany taking over entire northern France.

I especially like how you have more time to 1453. But yeah, the absence of uniform kingdoms bothers me because of the border gore.
