    But cars aren’t super expensive now, adjusted for inflation. When adjusted for inflation, they’re roughly around the same price as always … and in modern cars, you’re getting a lot more car for the ‘same’ money.

    The real complaint here could be how they’ve been enshittified in order to keep prices at that level while also adding lots of new features. We pay for it in cars that are more complex, more fragile, and more difficult to maintain and repair.

      The reference point for how expensive something is shouldn’t be inflation but wages. If you look at it that way, cars have definitely become much more expensive/unaffordable.

        If you look at it that way, nearly everything has become much more expensive/unaffordable, as wages have not kept up with inflation.
