I was a very prominent member of voat during its early days. My account was disabled and shut down multiple times, though the Admins often reinstated my account. Likewise, I was on said.it and ruqqus, same deal, too many extremists which then shut down the site.
It happens because mainstream social media sites shoo away extremists, which is fine, but inevitably big social media sites collapse little-by-little, and so the only alternatives are extremist places. Then it’s a whole loop, no one wants to engage because of the lack of diversity, and eventually, the whole site shuts down, and everyone goes back to mainstream social media. I mean look at my account and this community for instance–the exact same thing is happening again, a handful of extreme no-lives are trying to shut down opposing views.

Thankfully, though, Lemmy is federated.
