I hadn’t heard of this game before so I looked it up to get a sense of the plot only to find out that it’s on part 6 of the series which is actually a spinoff of another multi part series going back to 1994 that was itself a spinoff of yet another series going back to 1987 on the original Famicom and THAT game was based on a book…
Do I need to know about all of them to follow what’s happening?
Nope. Each has its own story and none of them are connected (with an exception or two and a few spinoffs like fighting, rhythm, tactics, dynasty warriors, etc games that use the characters).
Persona’s basically Pokemon with demons and dating sim elements in Japanese high schools. Each numbered entry is its own contained story so just jump in to the one that has the vibe you like. P5 is probably a good starting point thanks to it being the most recent entry and it oozes style.
Much of the same can be said about most of the mainline Shin Megami Tensei entries too, but they can offer some pretty cool premises. My go-to is SMT: Strange Journey. It’s an awesome cosmic horror set in a black hole discovered in Antarctica. If you like grid-based dungeon crawlers then you might really enjoy it.
Oozes style is the perfect way to describe it.
The games are great, at least the 3 & 4. Can’t vouch for the other ones tho as I haven’t played them. I’m gonna go with Kotaku this time to say nobody wants the live-action.
Nope. Persona 5 was my entry into the series.
Why? The anime was already really good. Anything else is likely to just look bad in comparison.
