So, itās obvious that he has some kind of degenerative dementia thatās impacting his cognitive abilities. Itās been obvious for a long time but it looks like itās getting much worse lately.
If he has dementia he probably has other health issues too.
So letās say he gets the Republicans nomination (extremely likely at this point), what happens if he dies or is otherwise incapacitated by his illness?
Who becomes the Republican nominee? I mean if heās picked a VP at that point itās going to be them, but if he hasnāt then who gets the nomination? Haley is likely to drop out after today and heāll sweep the rest of the States unopposed so itās not like theyāll have a next closest with votes to put up, and theyāre not going to have time for a second round of Republican primaries.
I really wonder what their backup plan is because if heās going downhill this fast, heās not going to be in great shape around November.
Each party is its own club and sets itās own rules. While the primary elections are kinda sorta binding, the important election is at the party convention, when delegates pick a candidate, similar to the EC.
Even if Trump wins all the primaries, but something happens to render him ineligible/incapable before the convention, the convention can adopt rules that allow Trumpās delegates to vote for whoever they want. Thatās ultimately why I think Haley will keep going until the bitter end. Even if she wins no states, as long as she keeps getting 30+ percent of the vote she will end up as the only viable candidate for the delegates to support if Trump goes away.
