so i used reddit for help with mostly linux and stuff, and it worked fine but i was starting to get pretty fed up by all of these chuds 😭🥀 like you post something asking like an alternative to google pay for example, and they just say “pay with cash” or “use your card” even if you say that you want to use something like google pay and not cash/card. And they also seem to downvote for no reason at all. maybe im just an idiot or have really bad arguments and opinions, but on lemmy i get upvoted even if no one has commented anything!! its like people upvote stuff cause they’re interested in it and/or want the op to find an answer!!! also MOST redditors can’t be open minded or not be jerks. lets go back to that google pay thingy, if you answer to the “use cash/card” comment with something like “i know that technically is more privacy friendly and such but i just like the convenience of using google pay, idrk why but its just how it is” and they mass downvote that shit like its the black plague and reply with some beef jerky type shii (dont remember any good examples)

THANK YOU LEMMLINGS 🥹❤️‍🩹

Reddit is proprietary and centralized. Lemmy is free and federated. That’s why I love Lemmy.

Personally, I was surprised that you get as much help – and frequently even more – in channels that are like 1% of the corresponding reddit ones.

I think the reason is that total numbers mean little, and your ratio of reading-to-responding matters the most. If you’re surrounded by people who like to help each other, then they can easily process and actually read all new posts, and reply to newbies. If you’re surrounded by people who just like to skim through and not dive in to the actual question/post, you get brainless upvotes/downvotes and of course frustration.

For me, lemmy is not flawless, but it’s pretty good.

UPDATE: be careful to not over-read simply “Local” news, but stay on the topics that interest you though. Otherwise, you may get overwhelmed by bots or propaganda, which also exists here. E.g. you read your stuff and then suddenly encounter “Russia Today” and such? Block both the author and the channel immediately. I’d recommend that at least - your choice ofc.

i dont really read news unless its in my niche

also true, reddit feels more like ragebaiting social media rather than a place for forums and such

but lemmy feels like it was made by people, for people

theres still bait here and there but its rare

i particularly hate the just buy another one crowd. redditors are awful and though there are some here, it’s still a nicer place to be.

    welcome, enjoy your stay

maybe im just an idiot or have really bad arguments and opinions

I hate how reddit relies on bullying people… all of them, who behave so similarly to one another over there - that is the result of bullying and conditioning until they match that desired social norm.

To be honest, I actually got banned from reddit shortly after I made more of an effort to show kindness to people and communicate in a more casual, natural way for me; less like redditore are known for. It could just be a coincidence but it felt like getting banned for breaking their social-programming.

And yes I’ve had your experience where they pretend to not know what you’re talking about. If you still need something like Google pay, I hear that revolut is good.

I like to think I was banned for similar reasons, but I’m pretty sure it was because I was commenting in a gatcha subreddit that was really circling the drain regarding taste. Folk were putting up questionable images of questionable body types and I was getting annoyed that the game was falling so far. Got banned for calling a spade a spade. Ironically, the sub was banned shortly after.

Thankfully I cant have the same issue here because all the niche interest communities are dead, lmao!

you know, that for most (if not all) places oft the world, what a USian would describe as liberal just would be considered normal, democratic civilized peoples behavior. What you think is liberal would by no means be considered “liberal” in i.e. europe
