I am interested in learning more and for that, of course, I have to read a lot. I have a few questions for the people here, especially those who know a lot of theory/history and have read a lot of books.
-
How do you manage your time? Do you dedicate some time every day to reading? Every week? Any specific techniques you might use? How do you balance reading together with work, school, errands or other hobbies?
-
Do you find the need to read quickly? I had an idea a few days ago to try and practice speed reading in order to be more efficient. Does anyone else here have experience with that? Is it unnecessary?
-
How do you stay focused? I sometimes find that my mind wanders while trying to read theory. It’s not that I don’t find it interesting, it just happens.
Thank you everyone in advance for all the answers, you all have been incredibly helpful to me ever since I started getting involved here!
I’ll be straight with you, I don’t. I want to. I try to. But at the end of the day i either have too much other shit to do OR I’m so burnt out I just want to stare off and mindlessly watch something on TV. I know I need to read more. I WANT to have the drive to read more. But God damnit after work I just want to not use my brain. All day long I am writing bullshit technical documents. I just write bullshit and then have to explain the bullshit to my companies dipshit clients because no matter how descriptive you make these documents they also find something to ask bullshit questions that ARE ALREADY ANSWERED IN THE FUCKING DOCUMENT JUST READ IT ASSHOLES.
I spend all day writing shit and explaining shit for other people that I myself have to learn first in order to write said technical documents. So all day long I’m reading and then regurgitating the shit for other people. So I get off and am fucking tired of it. I just want to BE the one being fed the info for a change. Like if it’s a podcast or a video of someone talking theory or history or what not I can get completely engrossed in it.
Like I have several of Grover Furr’s books waiting for me. I made it through the first chapter of one of them one night and I felt mentally exhausted from it. And it wasn’t even the actual info. It was an entire chapter of him talking about how and why he wrote the book. But I guarantee if I had a video or podcast of someone talking about all the details of that book I would be completely engrossed in it.
So if anyone knows some good podcasts (or videos) beyond Proles of the round table and the Deprogram (which I just started) I’m open to suggestions. lol. I still try and learn and read what I can. I have learned a lot from this site and the old GenZ sub. It just never feels like enough.
