Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

IMO it would be weird to have a dedicated community for a particular corporate entity, on this server. And it’s not like we have only one aerospace company here.

Instead, why not have a generic space-themed community? There, one could also post about stuff like Dawn Aerospace’s Mk-II Aurora missions, Starlink stuff (such as tie-ups with NZ telcos, new NZ plans etc), comet/aurora/eclipse sightings, maybe even stuff about NZ’s dark sky reserves and astrophotography shots.

The intent was more to be a Rocket Lab community for anyone on Lemmy, and not focused on NZ (other than the obvious bit where they do all their launches here). But I take your point about our carefully curated list of communities including one for worshiping a company. I’m interested to hear other people’s views on this.

There are already generic space communities on other instances, and I’m not sure we could really justify splitting out the NZ space stuff. To be honest, the stuff you’ve listed I’d rather just see posted here in !nz instead of split out into another community.

Agreed. In that case, I’d say if some really wants a Rocket Lab-specific community that’s not focused on NZ, they should create it on a server with a global audience, like lemmy.world or something.

I like that idea - I really want to get organised to go see a launch from up in Mahia sometime; especially as I can combine that with getting some of the best tuatuas in the country :)
