Hang in there. It’s nearly over.

What’s the best way to set up a temporary spare bed for a guest?

Would need to buy the mattress or whatever but I do have all the linen/pillows already.

Grab an inflatable air bed from kmart or similar if you don’t want to give up the space permanently. They’re pretty comfy for a couple of nights.

If you are rich, these folding beds are the best way to set up a temporary spare bed. Maybe you’ll get lucky and someone is offering one second hand cheaply?

If you are not burdened with too much money, I recommend these self-inflating things. We take them camping and they’re a lot more comfortable than they have any right being. Your guest will effectively be sleeping in the floor, though.
