Adult book store is for the most part an outdated term. There aren’t books, but rather sometimes magazines, and with the advent and accessibility of streaming porn, there are less and less movie rentals.

However, there usually is a decent selection of sex toys and “fetish” wear. I air quoted “fetish”, because it’s often just vanilla stuff like lingerie, stockings, and very mild kink wear.

That’s why for the most part, these days, they’re just referred to under the umbrella of an “adult store”.

Some of these stores also may have attached " arcades". Again air quoted, because they aren’t an arcade in the sense most commonly attributed to the term. There aren’t games, slots, etc. There are however typically booths, some with glory holes between them. You feed a screen money to play pornography, and you can beat your meat alone, or beat your neighbors meat, or any number of combinations of meat beating.

Very rarely, an “arcade” might involve paying money for a window to open, and you watch either a professional entertainer do things, or watch your neighbors do things. This seems a little more rare, though.

There are also adult theaters, which have their own deal going on. They also may include stores and arcades.
