My fig tree is putting out figs! I grew this tree from a cutting that a neighbor let me take from her tree. Here’s what the figs look like when ripe:

Did you root it indoors? Also did you use a rooting powder?

I’m trying to learn how to root cuttings so this is so cool to see. Nice job!

Thanks! Rooted indoors. No rooting powder - I literally just stuck the cutting into a small pot and kept it well watered. I’ve rooted them in water before as well. I even rooted one one time just by sticking it in the ground and watering it. Fig cuttings root very easily.

Thank you for the reply! How long (roughly) did you leave it in water before transferring to dirt? Days or weeks?

A few weeks. You want to see roots, but you also want to see the roots splitting off into more roots before you’re ready to transfer. When I go from water to dirt, I’ll usually set the pot in another container so that the larger container can contain water and keep the soil constantly moist (or you can just water daily). After about a week or two of that I’ll ease back on the water so that it gets used to just being in dirt.

Right on! I’ve got two in the ground but I am not super happy with their placement. I’ve been considering moving them, but they are doing ‘ok’. The spot I put them in is a bit shady, so they’ve been growing slowly. I think from what I’ve seen here, I’m gonna grab a few cutting and put them in sunnier places.
