Money can be raised. I think people would pay $20 /year to keep this open - assuming they had assurances, but I guess the cost of time effort and headache is the real burden.
Honestly the rest of Lemmy is a bunch of idiots I have very little interest in talking to.
Obviously last 2 aren’t relevant here. First two, strictly as written, I wouldn’t have issues with but I have seen sooo many leftists sites use the same language to basically virtue signal that they don’t like conservatives, conservative ideas, or speaking out in any way against minorities.
Like I can understand not wanting slurs or personal attacks. But not being able to voice the opinion that affirmative-action hurts minorities or that gender-affirming care harms the patient as well as society without being called a bigot seems practically impossible on reddit or 99.999% of Lemmy instances.
Could be these guys interpret those rules literally like I do or could be they interpret things through a Critical Race Theory / leftist lens. I have no clue but I usually put it in reverse when I see this cuz it’s so often the leftist interpretation.

I created an account on another 'decent ’ instance but I’m not sure if I’ll keep it.
were there any other instances that do free speech? i see your quotes so not getting my hopes up lol
Haven’t heard complaints about lemm.ee. And the stated goals and open financials seems pretty promising.
That said, I wouldn’t know it if people are routinely censored.
Main site has following rules:

Yea, but what they want to avoid is someone else taking over and becoming an evil dictator. Also costs.
