Sorry I’m a bit late to the party, but I was without home internet for a bit. If an admin can pull the deleted comment, please post it here for context. I don’t see it on the modlog. I think I said something like “Tell me you have a Hexbear alt without telling me you have a Hexbear alt.”

Such a stupid phrase too. Basically a pretentious, sloganeering way to say “classical/neo liberals aka capitalists are fascists!” Ok, brilliant political insight I guess if you have no idea what fascism is.

It means that if you threaten a liberals privileges, they will support fascism to keep it. Just because it has a deeper meaning doesn’t make it pretentious, odd to put it that way.

Okay, I’ll call it pseudo intellectual if that sounds better to you. That definition doesn’t make it less nonsensical and basically untrue… sorry if that “deeper meaning” eludes me.

One issue is that using that definition of liberal, one which is rarely used in American politics outside of economic and political classrooms, is an advanced form of “both sides are the same” as far as US politics - claiming that Democrats and Republicans are equivalent because “they’re both liberals”, which is a rather ignorant and narrowminded view.

Huh, you seem confused. I said “that definition” of liberal, not the word itself. What I mean is that ‘liberal’ is not used to mean neo or classic liberal. It has a different meaning, which is centrist or center-left, with an emphasis on ID politics. It’s used as the opposite of conservative. US Liberal means progressives and Democrats, and Republicans are the opposite, conservatives.

In the EU and elsewhere definition, it basically means capitalists and both Republicans and Democrats are liberals because they both support capitalism vs. socialism or communism. Call a Republican a ‘liberal’ in the US and on average they’d be confused or offended since that’s their nemesis in the US.

You admit it is used correctly in certain situations, but not entirely encompassing the full definition. If someone calls a Democrat a liberal, they’re still using the word correctly, even if they don’t realize why. Yes there are other uses that they are not aware of possibly, but that doesn’t mean they’re using it incorrectly. It’s a broken clock right once a day thing.

Now there are other times it is used as anything left of republicans, which is wrong. I’m highly aware of the global definition, but I appreciate trying to engage and educate about it.

It’s confusing in the context of US politics because it makes it sound like it’s intended to specifically mean the left side of mainstream US politics while leaving out the right. This seems odd to US readers as conservatives are more strongly liberal in that international economic sense.

Not power tripping. This is a lefty community. so they hafve a right not to tolerate anti-leftists.

Note that a “tankie” is not anyone using a lefty slogan. Neither is every marxist. Neither is it every hexbear either (even if they’re on an instance promoting tankie mentality). By using the word like that you are diluting it.

The mod of lefty memes is explicitly not in hexbear and .ml explicitly because they don’t want to be under their influence. This should tell you something.

Using heavy-handed censorship to create an echo chamber should not be tolerated. The thing that separates tankies from other leftists is their use of authoritarian overreach to enforce their political views.

Do leftists deserve to have their own space where they don’t have to argue with debatelords constantly? Some spaces are just for leftists and that’s fine. Some spaces are just for non authoritarian leftists and that’s also fine mPeople don’t deserve a platform for their opinions everywhere. They have the rest of the internet for that.

And no, having a space for leftists is not what makes one a tankie

You mean… do leftists deserve a safe space for posting hate speech?

No, I don’t think they do.

I don’t think so either. But they do deserve spaces where they don’t post hate speech.
