The Canadian government is advising Canadians in Lebanon to leave now while flights are available amid escalating violence between Israel(opens in a new tab) and Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

Asked about the escalating risk level and an updated travel advisory, Global Affairs Canada said it isn’t currently offering Canadians in Lebanon help to leave the country.

“Government assisted evacuations from a foreign country are an option of last resort, when all means of personal and commercial transportation have been exhausted, and the safety and security of its citizens is compromised,” Global Affairs Canada spokesperson Kevin Sweet wrote in an email to CTV News on Monday evening.

    “Lebanese militant group”

Should be read as “Iran armed and equipped militant group that just happens to be in Lebanon”

Except thats not even fully correct either. Hezbollah is also a political party with members who are 100% non-militant civilian members who are only politicians.

They also run charities. Think black panthers.

Its the same with Hamas and the US government. Only a fraction of their staff are military, and only a fraction of that fraction are combatants.

It is a war crime to target non-combatants. So when someone says they want to kill everyone who works for the US government or everyone who works for Hezbollah or everyone who works for Hamas, they’re saying that they want to commit war crimes.

If it’s a war crime to target non-combatants, then Hezbollah is already committing the war crimes with their rocket attacks on Israel. So is using human shields.

If your enemy isn’t following the “rules” why should you be required to do so?

Because thats how we protect civilians.

We’re talking about a conflict where two terrorist groups are attacking each other, causing mass civilian death.

When this happens, It is the responsibility of the rest of the world to step-in and issue sanctions and criminal prosecution of war crimes committed by both sides.

Oh right, all the sanctions and prosecutions against Iran are working so well.

The rest of the world has picked sides, and there are major players on both sides, so nothing can happen.
