I have read voraciously all my life. Audiobooks ruined it somewhat, but with a 2 year old I have been adamant that he sees dad with a book, not a phone or e-reader.

I have tried the classics numerous times, but I find them mind numbingly boring. Homer, Tolstoy, Ibsen are so dreary. Better some good fantasy by Pratchett or Gaiman. Found the Slow Horses series to be enjoyable. If you want more classic action perhaps the Musceteer-books by Duma or Sherlock Holmes by Doyle. This is a case all over. At uni I rented near a elementet school (year 1-7 which is 5/6 to 12/13 years old in Norway) and it was massive driving hazards there as well. My aunt also worked an elementary school and they had to have staff patrol the drop off/pick-up area each day, and put up barriers and chicanes because of dangerous driving by stressed parents.

I now deliver my kid by foot to kindergarten and here they built a proper delivery zone for both schools and kindergarten forcing people to drop school children (that can walk alone) far off and a well planned logistical sound one for the kindergarten. Not perfect but it’s something

My mother worked in Germany in the late 60s (We are Norwegian) and her boss’ (and life long friend of the family) husband was 16 when he was literally drafted from HJ to the SS in early 45. He was a good jugend and it was an “honor” and such BS. But having spent all his childhood in nazi Germany he knew nothing else. He was captured by the Russians in Czechoslovakia and spent 5 years as a POW and the only reason he made it as far as becoming a POW was his age and because the SS NCOs made sure he didn’t get the SS serial number tattoo since he was so young.

God knows how he manages to survive, but I never knew him to not eat every morsel of food on his plate, and he never talked about his experience.
