Not sure about biological reasons. Its possible I spose but without more medical knowledge. In not sure how removing / changing organs as they grow developmentally effects the final outcome.

The argument has always been about the maturity of the candidate. And the idea that surgery is not practically reversible. Vs the mental harm of growing up in a body that dose not match your perceived gender.

But I have to wonder. As In the UK and I am sure the US hormone blockers are also being attacked with often questionable medical evidence as to the harm the may do when used on developing teenagers.

Given In the UK it is definatly not legal for anyone under the age of consent to have gender reasignment surgery. The current attacks seem to be aimed at making it impossible for that surgery to achive its best success once it is legal.

Pretty sure its in the deal as a trap. IE if any other data exists and he dosent destroy it. If it comes out his plea deal is invalid and he can be arrested and tried.

I am curios what I have missed that indicates that. As I have not seen a script and cannot imagine the writers openly saying so.

There is no doubt folks in the 70s. Even those with the right intent made mistakes. And did what folks now would consider stupid. And I have no reason to assume the writers of this are not also making such mistakes.

But I have seen nothing that talks about the intent or plans of this show beyond it being about a news presenter getting cancelled. It really sounds like you think adressing the negativity of the anti woke crowd is impossible. While at the same time making some non evidenced rather nasty accusations about the writer of a show you haven’t seen?

And I really do not know much about India.

But I have heard that their is a huge amount of shame connected to trans behaviors. To the point that I once saw a video where the government hired trans women to embarrassed people into paying taxes. This was at some time in the 90s so drag wa she term used. But it was basically hiring men dressed as women to spend time hanging around the business locations of people failing to pay their taxes.

Honestly if this is how it can be seen in the nation. I can very much see a family wanting to claim a member was tricked rather then chose the option.

Very like we used to see wealthy families refusing to admit thoer darters got pregnant. Back in the 40s many young teen women were placed in mental institutions when they got pregnant. Later on we saw mothers claiming the dauter belonged to them rather then an unmarried teen daughter.

I can see the motivation being similar.

It may well be done in the way Alf Garnet was back in the 1970s.

As many here will be way to young to remember the character. He was the main character of a show called “Till Death Us Do Part” He and his wife were an old married couple. And required home help (government funded care coming in daily to help with keeping the house tidy etc).

The show was famous for the racist crap alf would sprout. Often to his Black home help worker. But in general he was expressing some of the worst 1930s ideals in a 1970s environment.

The best way to describe the ideal and general way most Brits understood it. Is to share the view Warren Mitchell the actor who played alf described it in an interview.

He was asked about the portraial of the character. To paraphrase his reply.

I was once approached by a guy on the street. Who told me he was a fan and loved the way Alf took the piss out of the “Darkies”. To this he responded. You idiot. It is **** like you we are taking the piss out of.

While if that event actually happened (who knows) it was clear that guy was not effected by the piss taking. As he did not even recognise it.

As a young man (early teens when that interview happened) who grew up with the show. It was very clear to everyone else that we were laughing at the character not with him. The show always managed to portray his views as either idiotic or just pathetic. He was seen as a scared old man worried about losing his power in society. Even by a 1970s audience at a time when most were way less informed about things then now.

Ill def agree such an attempt now would be difficult to pull off in the same way. And was likely less effective then the writers hoped in the 70s.

Id defiantly be interested to see if it can be done effectively with a modern audience.

Because lets face it. For a guy to arrive and be placed through non emergency surgery with nonone haveing spoken to the patient about what he was going in for. Nope no hospital would consider that without some way to confirm the id of the patient.

So the whole idea of this story seems to lack any credibility.

Every nation with currency sovereignty manipulates its currency.

Kidding of course. Have to admit I agree. I’ve used Linux since the late 1990s. So long long before it was usable by most folks standards.

I started because my university had HPUX machines that we needed to submit work on. So wanted a unix like enviroment at home I could work on. This was a tim when linux was basically slackers on 50plus floppy disks. Xwindows needed configuring for every monitor. Honestly by current standards usability was non existant compared to windows.

But a cow in the middle of a busy road acting aggressive towards humans. Is a genuine threat. I can def see a cop being to scared to approach it without the car and thinking removing the cow is urgent.

Of course the action is dumb. Clearing the road and calling a vet would be better. But I can fathom a cop panicking.

The UK still imports £223m in tea a year. It has gone down since COVID. £271m.

But yes tea is still a very popular drink in the UK.

But XLs were intentionally bread as fighting dogs. So while I agree extermination of the breed is cruel.

Encouraging breeder to continue the breed is also unacceptable. And as we do not currently have the ability to change laws in other nations. The current law that requires owners to register and raise the dogs safly. IE using a muzzle. Is likely the best we can do atm.

Unfortunately dogs are legally treated as property. So banning anyone from owning a dog that is less desirable. Basically translates to put the dog down if you cannot find someone willing to follow the new laws.

I’d love the laws on dogs to think of them more as a responsibility then property. But we also have to accept the nation we live in is not going to do that.

I grew up in a time of dog licencing. At that time it was basically a small fee you paid yearly token a dog.

So the idea of making that more effective would be fine by me.

But. I really worry about how such things would be implemented. We have just been through a pretty drastic change in what dog training means. Up until about 10 years ago everything we knew about dogs. Was based on 1930s scientific research.

Very flawed research based on wolves I captivity. As such pretty much all advice given up untill very recently. Was based on that research.

We now know wolves in captivity are not dogs. More importantly they do not act life free wolves.

Huge amounts of training such as alpha leader etc. Was based on wolves suffering stress. We also now know training this way leads to harm to the mental health of the dog.

For dangerous dogs. Upto date training is needed. But I am very uncomfortable with laws relating to have every day dogs not bread for fighting are trained. Because we know. Any rules we come up with now. Are likely to take forever to change if we learn they harm the dogs mental health later.

We do not hate bigger dogs. No one wants to limit Irish walf hounds or st Bernard’s. All huge dogs.

The difference is some dogs are physically bread to be able to kill. Others not. If you are attacked by a smaller dog. Or even a labradorite etc. Size dose not lead to them killing you.

Heck even a rotviler a dog bread with muscle and a strong jaw. Is entirly legal. And has no seriose desire to ban. Because they are not bread to be aggressive.

XL bully’s and many other banned dogs are not banned due to size. They are banned as the whole breed was created as a marketing gimmick. To sell to unthinking owners looking for a weapon on 4 legs.

And just like anything else sold in that manner… restrictions are applied. That basically say. Store it safly. Or you must notmow one. If you ow an XL bully. Options exist that do not require you to kill it. House it safly at you ow cost. Or find a ho e that is willing to do so.

When a small dog bites you. You are there to take the owner to court. As you always have the right to do.

When the dogs banned bite you. That is often not an option. As the dog is able to kill you. Most domestic dogs are not able and or not bread with the desire to fight.
