The amount of aggravating bullshit Microsoft introduced made it so I dread when my daughter asks if I can get it working for her, despite having bought it once as an OG, and at least once since. Badly tarnished maybe the game of a generation or era of gaming imo.

PolarKraken@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something about Microsoft Outlook that drives you crazy?3·2 days agoYeesh. I’ve been (blessedly) away from MS for a bit now so I’m kind of catching up / watching the carnage from afar.
When you jack up veteran user workflows so much that it makes the OS feel alien…you’re really just daring people to jump OS. I know it’s not that simple for work environments, but I can’t imagine administering this sloppy mess has gotten any easier, so…gonna be fun waiting for the suits to eventually catch up I guess.
PolarKraken@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something about Microsoft Outlook that drives you crazy?3·2 days agoI’m really starting to wonder if they just might fuck up their products so badly it fucks up their insanely strong market position enough to be replaced.
MS used to be more careful with the corporate/ enterprise side. Some notable exceptions of course, the tiles-only “mobile-tap-first” interface of 8 was rough on users, but forcing that on their server 2012 OS was an abomination.
But the stuff outta MS lately is just nutso.
How about “lacked a VHS player altogether” lmao. My movie ingestion growing up was basically 100% up to the whims of random people, strange way to do it.
Really dig the scrappy approach y’all used tho, that’s the good stuff. Being broke taught me a lotta the most important stuff TBH.
I played a buncha Vampire Survivors around that phase lol, just need one hand for the controls. Football cradle baby, hold bottle in that same hand (does require some wrist flexibility), other hand & arm free.
That hold doesn’t help with wiggles of course (and maybe you already use it) but at least you can pause VS.

And every possible communication technology between those two extremes is also used for this purpose.
The crazy part is I think for all of the sophistication, it all just boils down to a numbers game. Reach enough people with enough bullshit enough times and their minds change. It’s flat out that simple.
PolarKraken@sh.itjust.worksto NonCredibleDiplomacy@sh.itjust.works•Maybe he made a deal with the other guyEnglish29·10 days agoWhat gets left out of this is how much he had to lie and scheme to do it all, which makes it worse to me. There’s a lot to be said about the failings of the US military and general diplomacy throughout our history, but holy fuck.
That one guy is responsible for forcing (through deceit and other trickery) a big proportion of some of the worst atrocities our country has committed. He’s seriously among the very worst people I can think of.
PolarKraken@sh.itjust.worksto Leopards Ate My Face@lemmy.world•'No one voted to deport moms': Pro-Trump town regrets its choiceEnglish35·10 days agoSmart observers will realize this saga is a story about the effectiveness of modern media at distorting reality. Americans aren’t just magically, uniquely shitty people. We had a coordinated disinformation engine, truly a superweapon, trained on our population for a long, long period of time.
Shit works pretty great, and the world will see more of it.
Edit: strongest bit of evidence is probably just how the target group got their world views completely rewritten. Hard to really document properly, ya kinda just have to witness the dramatic shift firsthand. People got reprogrammed within a single generation. The same folks who raised us on “two wrongs don’t make a right” and “treat others how you want to be treated” behave completely unrecognizably today. The disinformation engine is so effective they were tricked into completely rewriting their own internal values.
PolarKraken@sh.itjust.worksto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•This led to a very confusing discussion in the replies about the varying fares and systems of public transit in the Oakland-San Francisco areaEnglish9·14 days agoDepending on state, you may need to defeat varying regional wildlife (at least one full game with multiple generous DLCs, spanning the US) in order to complete the journey, and this does accrue XP as one might expect.
It does also produce players attached to min-maxed builds to adhere to one or another strategy, so play the meta-game carefully.
Thanks, interesting and brief read!
Goddamn inflation…
What do you mean by “competitive programming”? Is that just working specifically towards CrossFit events or whatever or do you mean something else?
This is me too, really seems like a blast and like a great way to expand one’s repertoire of movements and capabilities, but I just tend to be injury prone, plus now old, so I’ve always been gun shy about self-teaching the Olympic lifts. And man, I have taught myself so much stuff across a wide range of domains lol.
Sadly I’m just also way too cheap (broke) for a coach. Bring on the AI form trainer!..? But then again, maybe it hallucinates, I try its bad advice, and turn my spine into an accordion…
PolarKraken@sh.itjust.worksto Games@lemmy.world•Developer interview: my Q&A with the creator of LutrisEnglish2·18 days agoI just bought two oldish business class Dell laptops this last week and put Bazzite on em both, for the fam. Easing out our Chromebooks we’ve used for minor things, just can’t abide a machine that won’t let me actually own it anymore, with the way the world’s going.
Not exactly revolutionary lol, but your enthusiasm demanded something in response, so I wanted to let you know that we (and I bet lots of others!) are all in. And I really hope you keep doing stuff like this!!
If I haven’t contributed something to Lutris by this year’s Hacktoberfest, by golly I’m committing (heh) to putting an open issue to rest during best month.
Cheers and thanks again!!

But I’ve noticed your comments since this wee little exchange more and more, esp. on db0, and I like how you get down.
Sell me on PieFed if you feel like it!
PolarKraken@sh.itjust.worksto Uplifting News@lemmy.world•After donating $1m to Trump and axing DEI, Target CEO watches his salary get chopped in half by tariffs and angry shoppersEnglish3·18 days agoYeesh, you’re exactly right that this is the right way to think about it and thank you for pointing it out that way. Absolutely disgusting, I can’t believe we all allow this. I’m pretty fuckin good at math and those timescales and numbers are just not intuitive, I’m always surprised with figures like these, even though I’ve seen em before. If people knew, really knew this stuff, I have to believe it would change.
Anyone “earning” like this while the people (and their families) propping up these fiefdoms sacrifice and struggle the way they’re forced to - anyone doing so is de facto amoral. I’d go so far as to say deserving immediate death, no further evidence needed.
But maybe that’s the 4 beers my old ass had tonight making me feel spicy, lol.

PolarKraken@sh.itjust.worksto Weightroom@sh.itjust.works•LiftManual is a solid referenceEnglish8·19 days agoYeah, I don’t begrudge him for it really, he’s just playing the game, same as anyone else who tries to make money from YouTube. Can’t really be done in a way that isn’t obnoxious. And to be honest, I may never have realized the wealth of knowledge he has and shares, without his YouTube presence, so I mean. I’m part of the problem lol.
And yeah, $25/month is just way too much for an app for me, I can repeatedly injure myself for free, thank you very much. All jokes aside though I’d imagine it’s pretty quality, he seems like a serious dude.
PolarKraken@sh.itjust.worksto Weightroom@sh.itjust.works•LiftManual is a solid referenceEnglish10·19 days agoI like this one - Israetel isn’t always my favorite, but he does strike me as extremely knowledgeable and with a sincere commitment to avoid the flood of pseudoscience that is the plague of the industry.
Be aware - this link isn’t just the form cues, but if you follow each muscle group link, within each sub-article is a table with links to zero-fluff 30 second YouTube videos demonstrating form for a huge number of exercises. Cool shit.

YEAH MF, congrats, now your brain is malwared to fuck, you shouldn’t have looked at it dead on. Limewire is best treated like a Medusa… whose effects show up later.
Guaranteed 10 years earlier dementia onset at a minimum, probably some strokes that leave you “revealing” family secrets invented out of whole cloth by the w4r3z in your now-compromised, botnet brain.
Sorry, Limewire was a wild ride. Could just be the way memories work, but looking back, I think Limewire delivered what I actually tried to download <50% of the time, maybe <30% by the time I stopped using it.
Napster was super dope (and, oddly enough, accidentally produced a solid way for me to buy drugs from the hood, lmao), and Soulseek was absolutely delicious, but - alas.
