  • Oh, I actually meant Windows at home. Windows at work is definitely problematic.

But at home, for my own stuff, Windows just works, with zero setup or maintenance hassle. I used to do the whole Linux thing, had set up dual boot (again for games that only work on Windows ) it was not only not fun, what was I getting out of it? I found myself not even booting to Linux because it literally was not providing me with anything I needed.

  • A lot of people swear by this whole “death of the author” philosophy because it let’s them ignore the literal stated intent of the author in favor of whatever pet theory they have. Which is fine, but you can’t use it in a debate about theories about the work. There isn’t a right answer to what you want to believe, but there often IS a right answer to what the actual author actually intended, especially modern authors in the age of information.

  • You’re getting downvoted but you’re not wrong. I lived in Israel for 4 years and I was in an Arab neighborhood. They were mostly christian, but they were all pre-israel descendants and they had all the same rights as anyone else.

I’m super against what the government of Israel does, but apartheid just doesn’t fit.

I have also lived in south Africa, post apartheid but close enough that I’m very familiar with what it really was.

I see why apartheid is used, in some ways it is descriptive and useful but it ignores a lot and is ultimately inaccurate like you say.

I was 21 in 2008, and I’d been a fan of Ctrl Alt Del since near it’s beginning. I was a huge web comic fan in general, and I got intensely emotionally invested in them, even the silly ones.

This strip hit me exactly as he intended it to. It resonated with me I guess because of my brother and sister in law going through a miscarriage shortly before. Either way, it had a powerful impact on me and I didn’t see this “tonal shift” as a problem. That’s kinda dumb if you ask me, lots and lots of comedies have serious moments.

Anyway, I didn’t know this meme until a few years ago and it always makes me sad. It’s dumb, I know.

I’m super sensitive to negativity, which is why I was always a lurker in reddit, I always got shat on whenever I shared anything, to the point that I’d just delete my account and hide from the internet for a while.

  • People write work emails differently, but I write more like the “don’t” list than the “boss” list in most situations. I also rarely put much thought into it unless it’s an extremely delicate situation. The only problem I have with this post is it’s presumption that your way is the boss way and the other way is somehow inferior.
