  • Hey there! Someone who lives in a country with sixteen different communist parties here. My advice is to simply join the party you see has more chances to achieve the goals you have in mind for society (those being in your case a ML state, I suppose). Neither a large socdem party with zero interest in revolutionary politics nor a minuscule hardline communist party with zero influence will do, so it is up to your judgement to find the goldilocks party in that spectrum.

Did any of yall Non-Americans ever have to do School Shooting/Intruder drills?

Good lord, no. That is not only awfully weird but terrible as well, and even more having to do that three times per schoolyear.

What we had instead was fire drills, and we had one per schoolyear, but I think you Americans are familiar with those too.

  • The removal of the bran from rice does indeed come with the loss of certain nutrients, but it is still not purely devoid of them as you imply, and again, not at all comparable to alcohol. White rice still comes with selenium, manganese and niacin [1], which by definition would not make white rice empty calories. Of course you will have deficiencies if your diet is formed mostly of white rice, and that is why it is expected from everyone to have half a brain and make rice a component of a varied diet; brown rice does not escape from this fact either. Keep in mind in this thread we are addressing people in the first world with a wide accessibility to varied foods, and not empoverished third world farmers.

It did, as a light-hearted joke comparing Xi and Obama walking side by side with a resembling image of Tiger and Pooh. Of course, westerners then proceeded to take it and turn it into their own distortion and elaborate some story about how China is banning Winnie the Pooh and that is why painting a chinese man yellow with photoshop is a sign of resistance against a government on the other side of the globe and totally not racist.

It resembles a lot the same thing that happened with that image that floated the internet around a few years ago of Putin photoshoped as a stereotypically and comically flamboyant homosexual man, which is totally not homophobic even if the punchline is “he’s gay” because you can always make it up that the image is banned somewhere and thus is a sign of resistance and contains no reactionary sentiment behind.
