En extra leuk is dat je er zelf helemaal geen inspraak in hoeft te hebben. Als een direct familielid DNA instuurt en ze blijken bijvoorbeeld verhoogd risico op bepaalde ziektes te hebben, dan kun je zelf ook tegen hogere verzekeringspremies aanlopen, om maar iets te noemen.

There’s definitely the bureau kredietregistratie in the Netherlands.

As far as I know you can’t “freeze” it like you describe, though you can request information on what is stored about you and who accessed it. It also costs money to run a check, and credit history doesn’t go back more than five years, doesn’t include your mortgage unless you missed paying that for longer than three months, and doesn’t include debts less than €250.

Edit: also just checked, but the information is only shared with parties that share credit history with the BKR. I think that means that it’s basically frozen by default, i.e. only parties that are actually about to do business with you can access it, but I’m not entirely sure. They’ll at least have to do some kind of business, i.e. not be a generic data broker.

Oh yes, I’m not doubting it would be a multi-year effort, it’s more that I’m not aware of any such effort being in progress. Like, couldn’t the EU at least have set a goal of interoperability in x years?

I took a trip from the Netherlands to Romania, and amazingly only had a single transfer.

At least, that was the plan, but then a train went missing on the way there and we had an additional transfer. Pretty stressful. Way home was super smooth though.

The one thing I don’t get the EU doesn’t bring down the hammer on is getting directions and buying tickets. Feels like that should be a relatively easy fix, forcing all European rail companies to align from the top down. But I’m probably unaware of something that makes that harder than it seems.

Niet zozeer overgenomen; in de exit polls hadden ze gewoon toevallig procentueel wat meer BBB-stemmers gevraagd wat ze hadden gestemd dan dat er in totaal waren, dus toen alle stemmen geteld waren, bleek dat dat percentage eigenlijk wat lager lag (en van Volt hoger).

Granted, it’s not a huge city on the scale of NYC, but it would still be terribly noisy if 10% of those people had been in cars.

Ik ben toch ook wel een beetje benieuwd waar dit idee dat dit allemaal zo heftig is tegenwoordig vandaan komt? Ken je mensen die daadwerkelijk zijn gecanceld? Zijn er dingen die je zou willen zeggen, die eigenlijk niet zo heel erg zijn, waar je daadwerkelijk consequenties voor zou merken als je ze zou zeggen - en wat zijn die consequenties dan?

(Ik noem bijvoorbeeld nog steeds af en toe dingen gay, maar dat leidt hoogstens tot een afkeurende blik van mijn vriendin. En wellicht een ongemakkelijk gevoel bij homoseksuele omstanders natuurlijk, maar goed.)

Wellicht wat voorbarig, maar met de keuze voor Dick Schoof als premier, en VVD, PVV en BBB in de coalitie, ben ik ook bang voor een doel-heiligt-de-middelen-mentaliteit die de rechtsstaat ook geen goed zal doen.

Yeah, which seems a bit of a hassle, given that there’s only two possible opinions one could have on any given matter. Don’t know why they bother with more than two parties, really.

The Netherlands has Stemwijzer and Kieskompas. Of course, we already voted on Wednesday.

In the Netherlands, the parties PvdA and GroenLinks have started working together very closely, participating in elections with combined lists. They did the same for the EP elections, but had the challenge that PvdA was part of S&D, whereas GroenLinks was part of the Greens.

They went for the same solution: half the list (the PvdA part) will join S&D, and half (the GroenLinks part) will join the Greens. They will align their votes, though.

The way I interpret that, is that it’ll be easier to influence the Greens (since it’s a smaller group and thus GroenLinks is a larger part of it), but if the S&D position can be swayed, it’ll have more effect. And in general, both parties presumably aren’t that far from their group’s stances anyway.

Polls predicted both to be at around 8 seats. Exit polls have PVV at 7, Labour-Greens at 8, with a margin of error of 1. So pretty much what was expected.

Whether one or the other is larger is mostly irrelevant, as that only pertains to the Dutch share of seats in the European Parliament - there are way more seats to be assigned, and there will not be an absolute majority for anyone anyway.
