That’s a fair strategy if you actually can organize with other people at your work to do things like that. But it still does rely on having enough stability to get fired and not end up homeless while getting a new job or trying to sue. Crowdfunding can work if you happen to get lucky and your story gets picked up by lots of people, but it can also reach no one and leave you with nothing. So at the end of the day it’s gonna come down to organizing, if only there was some kind of organized body of workers you could form to fight policies that are bad for people in general along with being bad for the workers.

I have to imagine it’s because most of their money comes from business customers who rely on windows and would have to spend tons of money to switch to something else or OEMs who are making new computers anyways who this won’t affect. There’s a reason windows upgrades have been free for a while, I don’t think they really care about getting money from people anymore, they’re just after money from businesses and OEMs.
I mean I feel like it depends on their role in the company. Not everyone has the luxury of choosing the work they do. I know at least a few people who work in billing for a healthcare company that don’t want to do that work and understand it’s bad but don’t really have another choice as they couldn’t get any other jobs. I’m not gonna blame someone for working at a bad company unless they’re like an executive or other high up person who could take their skills to a different industry.
WarlordSdocy@lemm.eeto News@lemmy.world•Judge in Abrego Garcia case says there’s no evidence Trump administration is following her orders | CNN Politics4·6 days agoI mean I think at least in theory the court has the ability to use the US Marshalls to enforce a court order. And I also believe they can deputize others to enforce those orders instead in case the Marshalls end up answering to the DoJ instead of the judges.

That seems to be the argument you’re getting at and while that might work for you I’d rather work with people in my community to have projects like this to help people, as well as also protesting and advocating for change.

WarlordSdocy@lemm.eeto Games@lemmy.world•The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Won't Include the DLCEnglish13·10 days agoI mean generally if a company releases their game on a new console years after the original game came out it does include the DLC and is like a definitive edition. At least that’s how I remember it used to be when I actually bought console games.
We just need better science and tools with which to measure more precise levels of gayness.
I mean I think a lot of it is that at least in America when it comes to Math a lot of the teaching is more about how to use specific formulas and apply them to certain kinds of problems. They don’t really teach you what it is you’re actually doing or why you’re doing it. It just turns into recognizing a type of problem and applying a certain tool to it rather than understanding what that tool is and what it does.
I mean yeah if you’re grading on a curve he might be more up there but if you’re looking at it objectively as whether he did good or bad things I think he definitely did a lot of bad things, just like almost every president, which was the main point the comment above was making. I think we deserve better but it’s gonna take a lot of fighting against corporate interests to really get there.

Which I think is great for those groups as they are the groups that would have more trouble with biking. But I feel like for a lot of other people if you’re not in super rural areas biking is probably a better solution both for the environment and for your own health.
I mean considering the amount of people deported under his terms in office and the normalization of drone strikes he created I would say yeah, he was a bad president, not anywhere near as bad as Trump but still pretty bad. And that’s before you get into him capitulating to the establishment of the Democratic party on things like Obama care getting heavily watered down and just in general losing his progressive edge as soon as he took office.
WarlordSdocy@lemm.eeto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Oxford Professor: Cycling is 10 times more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero citiesEnglish3·14 days agoBut bikes solve the last mile problem that people tend to have with busses and trains. Plus they’re useful for shorter trips that wouldn’t really make sense for a bus or train. So giving better infrastructure to encourage that would definitely help even in a situation where you’re taking other forms of transit. As well as with how suburban America is it allows people to get out of the suburbs at a fairly good speed to get to public transit hubs or to stores.
WarlordSdocy@lemm.eeto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Oxford Professor: Cycling is 10 times more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero citiesEnglish5·14 days agoThat’s why you need it in combination with public transit. Even if it’s 90-100 degrees I can go for a bike ride for at least 10 minutes as long as I can keep moving and keep the air blowing on me. And I’m not even really in good shape. So as long as you can bike to a bus or train stop in a fairly short time, then hop on that where there’s air conditioning, then ride for a while, and eventually take another short bike ride to your work, then it should be fine. Of course during heat waves having a car as back up is definitely good or just to use during the hotter months also works and would go a long way to reducing green house gas emissions from either driving an ICE car or from the energy you use for your electric car.

What it really needs to be branded as is educating people who didn’t receive a proper education growing up as their school wasn’t funded well enough or they lived in a red state where funding was a problem on top of bad curriculums. I think that issue is primarily what’s led to our current state of affairs, underfunding of education and the limiting of higher education behind paying for college have led to a less educated America that falls for people like Trump.
WarlordSdocy@lemm.eeto Bluesky@lemmy.world•Re-education is the only way to eliminate MAGA and the toxicity of the Republican Party.2·14 days agoIt’s almost like if you educate the youth better through better funding of schools and better curriculums that it will become harder and harder for people to fall for this kind of propaganda. There’s a reason heavy red states have some of the worst education and public schools and those in power there want to keep it that way. It’s the same reason they go after the Department of Education, they want to limit access to education to only the wealthy so that the masses are easier to control with propaganda and fake news, so the response should be mass education campaigns. Killing them if anything just gives them more excuse to use the military and other things on you without at least some pushback. Self defense is one thing but saying half the country needs to be killed is entirely different.
Yeah I agree I don’t think it’s a good long term strategy, losing the dominant position is gonna make it easier for businesses to seriously consider switching to Mac, Chrome OS, or Linux. And when more people start to switch the OEMs will follow. It’s the classic short term profit over long term success approach that companies will always fall into. For now it provides a nice bump in sales through mainly OEMs selling new computers to people and down the line through the businesses who don’t want to make the switch or can’t make the switch so are forced to buy new windows computers. But yeah it’s probably gonna continue to sink their market share if average people can’t use the new OS and are smart enough to switch to something else. Although I’ve seen people still using Windows XP while connected to the internet so who knows if it’ll even be a big impact or not. It will really just depend on if enough people switch that more programs get ported to other OSes and then businesses can actually make the switch more easily. And if that ball gets rolling Microsoft’s market share will keep tumbling down, but again it’s hard to say if that’s gonna start or if Microsoft is gonna have to do a lot more bad things first to get there.
