I remember that marketing campaign. Windows Vista had a shaky launch, because the hardware manufacturers hadn’t polished the Vista-compatible drivers yet. 6 months later, they had caught up, but people still had a bad taste from it.
So when service pack 1 came out, Microsoft made a reskinned version of it and started an ad campaign with “customers” claiming “Windows 7 was my idea!” and the public ate it up.
I’ve been watching a lot of programs from the 60s and 70s lately, and Columbo is a great one. There’s something so calming and disarming about the entire tone of the show, which Peter Falk fits perfectly into.
It’s interesting, because after you’ve watched a few episodes, it becomes a great “background” show, with its low intensity. But if you’re paying attention to it, despite the recurring themes each episode, they change things up enough that it doesn’t get old like some shows from the period can be prone to do.
I’m not sure they could pull off the same vibe of a show quite as successfully today, but that’s not so bad because there’s so much existing material to go back and watch.

I have such bad things to say about recruiters. They generally don’t have a clue about any of the skills related to the jobs I’m after, and they take a huge cut of the pay the entire time I’m working the job.
On the other hand, the two best jobs (highest pay and best working environment) I’ve had in my career, I got through recruiters, so I acknowledge them as a useful business when it works out. The last one has led to the company buying my contract and hiring me directly for the past 12 years

I’m not saying fan theories aren’t allowed, I just said I’m not a fan of it.
I would hardly call their outings “secret” when it involves Kira getting into costume and walking clear across the promenade before deciding the holosuite isn’t for her. I just didn’t interpret any of the details as “hints they were dating” when the simpler “friends going out to do something fun” was not only on the table, it was clearly the intention of the scene.
For the record, I didn’t see Garak and Julian as dating either. Sure, Garak may have been trying, but Julian was more enamored with the spy scenario and intrigue than Garak himself as a potential partner
Honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of the tendency to interpret platonic relationships as sexual ones. I do get the desire for more representation, but I just wish the community wasn’t so willing to ignore regular old platonic friendships.
I’m sure that comes mostly from me as a guy who puts more emphasis on strong platonic bonds than sexual relationships. But I just don’t see Julian and O’Brien’s “bromance” as a boyfriend relationship, nor did I see Kira and Jadzia’s as dating either.

I can only imagine what it would have been like to work with Tim Curry, JK Simmons, and George Takei on that game. So much ham from such talented people, I have to assume they were just having fun with it all.

Man why does everyone blame O’Brien for any problem with transporters? He never even served on the Potemkin! I’m sure if he was Chief, he would have made sure to disintegrate Tom right then and there
Right, that’s really more of a Steam issue than a Bethesda issue. I get why Valve and Bethesda don’t want to provide customer support for old versions, but they don’t have to. People have been figuring out their own problems when using obsolete systems or software for a long time.
I have no issue with Steam pushing the updates and encouraging you to take them, but giving no way to decline is a pretty poor user experience. Especially when we already know they keep old versions on their servers, as people have made guides on how to downgrade with Steam
The mods that weren’t backwards compatible were primarily the ones that depended on the script extender. This was an unsupported executable that expanded on the commands available to the scripts in the mods.
Not to say unsupported is bad, but everyone was well aware that if they depended on the script extender, they would break if the game updated at all. The biggest mods avoided that dependency for exactly this reason, and really didn’t have any trouble. (Sim Settlements still worked the entire time, for example)
And like usual, the community stepped up and updated their unsupported extension quickly, ready for this outcome.
If you made a mod that depends on the script extender and then quit playing the game or supporting your mod, that was a choice you made as a modder. Meanwhile there’s mods that haven’t seen an update in 8 years that continue to work without issue.
The mods that updated for the first update were already updated within 24 hours of the next one.
The only mods that are still broken now are mods that were made and maintained by people who have stopped playing the game some time ago.
And even most of those still work, if they didn’t rely on the script extender
I’m a little biased towards Batman comics, but I’m not sure where your interests lie or what you’ve read already.
I really liked the Court of Owls storyline. The conspiracy and intrigue was right up my alley. I liked how the story was told and what the story was.
As far as more standalone stories go, there’s always the classics: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, and The Killing Joke. If you ask about Batman comics, these are always going to be on someone’s list
I’m not sure what it is “for” exactly, but in practice it tends to show a lot of brand new posts with zero comments or votes
Eh? I thought we had the date of this update a couple of weeks in advance. I don’t think any more notice would have helped get the mods updated faster when many of the modders just don’t play anymore
Think about the experience new users have.
I bring this up a lot, but among the things putting people off from sticking to Lemmy, the new user experience is just not great. I’m not talking about choosing an instance, I’m talking about the general attitude Lemmy has towards content in the feed.
I know it’s a very popular idea that if you don’t like communities or instances or users, you can block them. Unfortunately, most social media users aren’t interested in spending a couple of hours curating their feed to make it useful for them. People are coming in to a feed full of a growing number of niche porn communities, and if they can sort through that, they find heavy-handed political messages, FOSS bros telling everyone how popular software sucks, repost bots with zero discussion, and small community moderators desperately posting dozens of links into the void, hoping for bites.
At the very least, Lemmy needs a sort algorithm that is capable of keeping a page of the feed from being dominated by one community. Going further, I think we could benefit from giving instance admins the tools to curate a default feed that appeals to a wider audience of users.
Maybe then the smaller communities would have a shot at growing.

Yeah that probably tracks. Those students probably don’t give him the respect he deserves either, and he probably hates not being out in the field.
He said he received stuff on the Republicans as well, but it was “not interesting” and didn’t publish it. Didn’t really support his stated goal of transparency.
