Of all ways to get rid of dictators you choose Lybia as a good example. I rest my case.

Current events show that guns are pretty useless against dictators, people do just happily vote them in power. The right to free education would have been a better weapon.

I’m not convinced that source isn’t just spreading the urban myth. You’re going to have to come with something with more weight behind it than the webpage of a seller of heatpumps. Here’s another source saying it has nothing to do with eating: https://www.la-tour.ch/fr/conseils/se-baigner-apres-manger-faut-il-vraiment-attendre-3-heures
And what does that have to do with swimming after eating?
It’s mathematically proven that no voting system is perfect, so you’ll have to choose what you value most in a voting system. There is no clear best system.
I think the arguments for approval voting are strong. It’s simple and easy to understand, no need for complex multiple rounds of counting. Since you can’t rank candidates it doesn’t suffer from the spoiler effect.
In your hypothetical scenario you’re forgetting the Trump voters who will vote for Sanders again after they see Biden nearly beating him. RCV has a bigger problem which is called the spoiler effect where, without strategical voting a loser can influence the election results. And am I missing something or should the numbers in your RCV list add up to 100%?

A Honda civic weights ~1100kg. The kinetic energy of a vehicle is proportional to v2. Therefore, a vehicle going at 30MPH delivering the same kinetic energy as a Honda civic at 130MPH needs to weigh in at 1302/302*1100kg or 20tons. Modern American trucks are too big and heavy but not that big and heavy I think
No, we damn well aren’t.
It’s not a clear cut case, but if you look at the development of solar, battery and other renewable technology we definitely are on the right track to stop the worst. We might even be able to reverse some of it by the end of the century.
It could also make it vastly worse in the future, which is the more likely scenario.
Yes, I wrote that in the next paragraph…
Some times this place is really worse than Reddit, wallowing in self pity and downvoting anything positive. In many aspects this is still the best time to be alive no matter where you live in the world and the future is potentially very, very bright.
In short, solar prices are declining exponentially and deployment is growing exponentially. There are even companies claiming to be able to make efuels from air using solar cheaper than fossil fuels by the end of the decade.
Not the End of the World by Hannah Ritchie is a good book if you want to read something optimistic.
In the West too life is generally better than ever, also for people under 40
It’s really sad that many young people are so pessimistic about the future. Despite some setbacks the last years, in many ways the world is still in a better place than it has ever been in human history.
Child mortality is still lower than ever, (extreme) poverty is still on a declining trend, we’re actually on track to stop the worst climate change (thanks to massive Chinese investments), AI could vastly improve our lives in the future…
That said we do live in uncertain times, fascism is on the rise again, a nuclear war could still kill us all, fighting climate change is not done,l and AI could ruine all our lives; but pessimism is not the right mindset.
A big drying rack for things that don’t go in the dishwasher. Drying with a towel sucks and is unhygienic.
Maybe (probably) I’m just stupid and clumsy but cleaning as I go means cooking takes even more time and effort. I do it exactly the other way around, to minimize cleaning time I only clean my kitchen every few days when my counter gets too full. YMMV.
Enlighten me which part of the Netherlands doesn’t eat bland food ;)
No, exactly the same parts of Europe. Both the Dutch and the English were know for their spice trade and are known for their awful food. The rest of Europe has better food and terrorized and colonized for other reasons.

I’m surprised you didn’t expect to see that, you’re on the internet after all. But I did not make light of the Holocaust, you have misunderstood me.
They did try to make it humane, if alone to make it easier on the executioners. Causing pain and suffering did happen, but it wasn’t part of the plan. It was like trying to exterminate rats. You just want them dead, suffering is not necessary. In my option that makes the Holocaust more horrific, not less.
ammonium@lemmy.worldto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Trump Claims Nazis Treated Jewish Prisoners With “Love”English213·3 months agoThe Nazis actually did try to exterminate the Jews as humane as possible. They used gas showers so the victims didn’t know what was coming and didn’t have any any visual indications of harm on their body.
Whether it was out of some perverse sense of humanity, to make the executioners sleep better or simply to improve efficiency I’m not sure.
(To be clear, I don’t condone genocide whether you try to do it humane or not)

Last year China installed more solar than the rest of the world combined, but they have less than 1/5th of the worldpopulation 🤷
There are lot’s of things you can criticize China about, their commitment to renewable energy isn’t one of them.
