  • Except etiquette extends beyond just “common social etiquette”. Using a knife and fork the “correct way” is etiquette. Eating soup by scooping the spoon away from oneself is etiquette. Placing your cutlery the correct way on the dish when you’re finished is etiquette and varies wildly by country. These are just examples of dining etiquette, there’s much more. Its all bullshit and I agree it should boil down to being respectful and mindful, but depending who raised you it may happen that you get reprimanded and punished for not following very arbitrary rules.

  • Sounds like you’ve already made your mind up, but feminism is about equality. They fight for men’s wellbeing too. Moving toward an end to toxic masculinity, for example, is a big one on the objectives of the majority of feminists who actually embody feminism.

Pointing at the word “feminism” and going “but what about meninism” is just a scapegoat to continue hating them for no reason.

There are ““feminists”” who do not embody feminism at all: trans exclusionary radical feminists, or sex worker exclusionary radical feminists, are two examples of groups who use the name but don’t embody the values. They’re just as disgusting as any other transphobe or misogynist, honestly. But yeah, thats not feminism.

As a feminist, one of the biggest concerns on my mind, after obvious stuff like equal opportunity and eradicating harassment, is the appallingly evident void of education, role models, and support for young men in terms of their emotional wellbeing and understanding of the world and people around them. That is an issue of concern for me as part of being a feminist, not just a general concern.

  • In 2022, well into her project, Microsoft said it would retire its gender classifier following criticism that the technology can be used for discrimination. But Ada Ada Ada was able to continue using the gender classifier well after Microsoft said it would retire it. It was only after I reached out to Microsoft for comment that it learned that she and what Microsoft said was a “very small number” of users were still able to access it because of an error. Microsoft denied them access after I reached out for comment.
