  • I’ve come to realize what conservatives really fear is agency. They don’t want to see themselves as capable of changing the world around them, they don’t want responsibility. They spend so much time and money prognosticating what could happen, or could be true, and avoid thinking about what things should be like. Making the correct predictions is the most highly valued thing, and making an ethical statement is tantamount to declaring that you are above society, that you follow a personal code instead of the social code, that you are disruptive. They can’t imagine a different world, so all attempts at change are seen through the lens of fear of loss.

  • I disagree, I think smaller communities are more sustainable and defederation should occur more, not less. I like discussing common interests and digging deeper into a topic both users have a shared basic understanding of. For example, allowing and even promoting people to come into a community like WomensStuff and argue against some pretty basic feminist ideas is really not what that community is made for. There are so many more examples of this, but without fail the end result is discouragement of minority opinions and people who are truly passionate about their chosen communities.

  • Yeah 100M feels right. Also, wealth is usually tied up in non liquid assets, and it makes no sense to either force liquidation even if it crashes the value, or divide ownership equally among 9 billion people. Each asset needs to be re-allocated on a case by case basis. Like, the private international bridge in Detroit, it’s much more valuable as a single asset than the steel scrap it could be sold for.
