I havent grown Sarracenia for over 15 years but it looks to me like a lack of air movement and lights. Plants need natural air movement to encourage them to grow strengthening fiber to help keep them upright. Also they need a lot of sun and might be stretching sideways looking for sun. Those are my best guesses.

If thats truely melted plastic then more likely is you had a partial short and the 19V was dumping bursts of high current between the rings and slowly heated it. The question is what got between the two rings that made the partial short. Was there any organic or conductive stuff between the rings that you removed?

When the mug is on the base do you get a power indicator to tell you its working?

I dont think its a fire hazard but its certainly suspect. Gouge out the burnt plastic and see if there is a PCB hiding under the surface that those two gold rings are part of.

Riding on top of this top comment, I’m and electrical engineer, looked up you mug and its only 19VDC which means its almost impossible to have arcing with such a low voltage and that big of a gap. Try cleaning it, looks like a critter to me too.

The NVR doesnt have to live in the same VLAN if you give it explicit firewall rules to traverse to the tainted camera VLAN for the explicit purpose of fetching the rtsp stream from the cursed cameras. Its how I setup my network. The cameras are islanded, I setup Frigate to be allowed to go in and open that port over TCP. The cameras try to phone home and pull DNS but are ignored, only traffic they’re allowed to product is rtsp to Frigate.

For cycles, theyre designed to easily handle hundreds of charge cycles before their capacity degrades below 80% which is the industry standard for ‘end of life’. But 80% is hardly end of life. Lithium cells don’t like being left at 100% SoC, the high voltage stress damages the chemistry. All that being said, after years of power use you can easily expect at least 80% playtime you had on day one.

Its more that laptop fans are not designed for 24/7 usage, it will wear out quickly. Plus I hated hearing it.

I did something similar awhile back. Since you already cut open the bottom of your laptop I would suggest you cutting another window over the CPU and adding a large plate of aluminum as a shelf between the laptop and you hard drives. Then add a shim so the CPU cooler and plate touch, then you will have a passively cool laptop server with an internal UPS battery.

The honest answer is in the US all doorbells are powered by simple 24VAC transformers that burn 6–7 watts just being powered up, forever, for decades. This annoyed me plus I wanted a fun bell so I wired up a pi to use a modern, efficient 24VDC power supy to ring the bell and it gets turned on by the pi only when its needed so now my idle wattage is more like 0.25W.

Yep, with curl because I have OliveTin setup to accept requests to ring the bell from other pis or myself if I feel the need via the web GUI.

My doorbell is a raspberry pi that uses webhooks to send me messages on my privately hosted chat server and also rings a physical bell built in 1900. Do I win for the most simple high tech doorbell?
