I read long sections and scanned the whole article. He makes his point right away and then just layers it on. It’s well written, logical, and sad. Ya, he’s mad, but he’s got no answers.
While I very much appreciate the author’s perspective and work, I see some branding going on here. This reminds me of Doctrow’s “enshitification” thing. He coined the word and has done his damnedest to drive it into the culture.
Not wanting to dilute his brand, Zitron did not use the word enshitification, although he certainly discussed the subject. I’m willing to bet that Doctrow won’t use “Rot Economy” or “Business Idiot” on his own site either.
This is your call, Cory. You gonna step back from your quest to enshitify the english language and support someone else that’s trying to do so?
Indeed. I guess OP was looking for something besides windows tho …
and I’m just teasing, of course. I’ve got several Linux hosts running right now, but I’m typing on Win11.
Um … because its windows. Really. Almost downvoted you for that.

I think what you are saying is that the project I linked won’t work for USB boot on a new EFI system. I imagine your assessment about EFI is correct, but I’m mostly interested in virtualized systems.
Their are several DOOM linux things out there. The version I’m working on builds out with busybox.

My eventual intent is to use DOOM agents as a load tester.
I’d like the ISO to boot, look for a local game, and join a bot to deathmatch.
And then the testing metric would be a simple count. How many dooms can it run?
I have lots of projects. I might finish that one some day.
We used to do this back in the day with Win95.
You could change their shell to Notepad or something, and then that’s all the computer would run.
It was a slightly moar advanced trick than stealing their mouse ball.
RTFM. …
… The last thing you try.
Jebus. So did I. Like, I don’t care about penis bottles, but datacenters get my attention.
Ya there’s Arch. There’s NixOS. There’s still Slackware.
But have you heard of 9front?
9front is useless. You won’t be gaming or working with it.
Mostly, you’d learn how operating systems are constructed.
Or DoomOS or DoomLinux. It’s a basic linux system where DOOM is the shell.
I forked this and tried to get it running. Learned some interesting things. Still doesn’t work for me. :]

Have you tried Whoogle? The Whoogle results page is much simpler than what Searxing produces. It is still a web page though.
I’ve been mostly using Searxing. It looks like my Whoogle is broken again, so I’ll have to fix it before I can do a screenshot for you. (I may eventually just run one or the other, because the obfuscated traffic causes Google to freak out sometimes.)
Let me explain the ‘pro’ comment. I’m active on the official forum. Most of the ‘pros’ there don’t use proxmox_backup_client. People I respect do not use that tool, probably each for their own reasons.
My own issue with PBS support for physical servers is that full recovery is DIY. You have to format disks and stand up at least a temp OS in order to wipe and start over.
I think I’ve scaled out PBS pretty far. My biggest datastores are 14 TB. That’s about 85 VMs. I use a multi-layer PBS setup for Backup and Sync at 5 geographic locations. A couple sites have hardware syncing to virtual, which in turn does site-to-site. I’m using PBS site-to-site sync to support a colo migration.
PBS is a great tool in rapid development. During the time I’ve used it, they introduced fleecing and all its many issues. There are more changes coming. As admins, we are supporting a moving target.
I believe the point is that it doesn’t do a snapshot stun or run out of a delta disk. Its a different technology. I know it does use qm snapshot. The tech docs I’ve read don’t quite fill in the details for me either. Much of the point of PBS architecture was to avoid that stun.
The proxmox_backup_client is not my bag. I’m glad it’s found a user. Most pros I know don’t touch it.
They do different things for different purposes.
Whoogle masks google, that’s it. And it does so with minimal config or resources. Its faster.
Searxing has many search sources and options. It allows you to shape your results. Config can be challenging.
I find both of them to be fit for purpose. They work.
Nano is the one true fork.
Those editors are toys. Use something with real power. Use nano.
My friend, your heartfelt recommendation is appreciated and will be ignored because I’m not into Asian mystique.
For my part, I I recommend that you revisit the DOOM series. Of course you want a modern zdoom egine to play the early ones. Do not overlook Sigil and the other John Romero wads, which are legit extensions to the story. Proceed to DOOM 3 and discover BFG Edition, which includes an entirely new campaign called The Lost Patrol. After that play DOOM 2016. Stop there. There has never been a better video game made since. You can give up gaming now.
I don’t really want any magic powers or some final culmination. If I’ve used the (100 cells!) on my cutter, you get to meet my welder, and if you’re out of reach, eat some rivets. I’m not playing some bad guy, but almost the entire game for me is bloodshed, up close, and hardcore. Ya fuk the main mission.
Reading your comment, I’ve just learned more about the story that nearly 250 hrs of gameplay got me. So the end is hokey, huh? Big surprise. I hate Sarah.
This sort of thing never sounds like a good plan.
