Completely agree but sadly even if the war was to stop tomorrow the shut down of oil producing and refining facilities means that there will be a shortage for the next 6 months (apologies for not having a reference. I can’t find the statement which I think was made by the IEA but will add it if I can).

Hopefully the state and federal governments will start pushing for more subsidies for public transport.

I’ll play the possible devil’s advocate here but I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing! This will be good to help increase public transport usage to these popular locations and allow residents of the local area to have some certainty of parking near their place of residence

I don’t normally wade into these threads because they’re normally very emotionally charged but discrediting people cause they no longer live in the country of question denies displaced communities a voice.

Your statement would mean refugees or individuals who had the funds to legally (or illegally) escape from places like Syria under the Assad regime should be ignored as they don’t live in the country (roughly 6.2 million refugees or displaced individuals from as early as 2011).

While we should always take care when taking statements from any individual or group at face value and we should always complement them with a wide range of research from various sources we should never discredit someone’s voice because of something as arbitrary as not living in a country anymore.

This is a real step backwards, we all know that cage raised lobbyists have a far worse quality of life. I would beseech the government to rethink this approach for their wellbeing

This is fantastic news! Placing cycling and walking infrastructure near train lines is great because they’re often on flat and even terrain!

Reminds me of a little thought experiment I have in which could you close down the rail line from Wynyard to Chatswood? Replacing it with a light rail line and cycle track/walking path. It’s always interesting thinking about the possible benefits and issues with something like this.

Except that would mean forums like Steam or whirlpool would require people to verify their age is over 16 before posting but as far as I can tell they have no such requirements.

It seems to me that people can still quite easily set up forums for special interest topics and groups without issue from the government.

I’ll second that anecdotal comment. I was at a fundraiser for Ukraine earlier this year and there was a lot of frustration at how the Palestinian Israel conflict has had overwhelming support with protests and outcry from the general public but the invasion of Ukraine has been met with far less observed fervour and protests. I would imagine other groups feel harbour similar sentiments.

Well, considering 343 from what I understand hires contractors almost exclusively, UE5 is probably the only engine any of their devs will be familiar with as I don’t think the id tech engine is available for developers outside of Microsoft and I’d software? Though I might be wrong on that!

I think it’s important that we write to our local state MPs to ensure that they’re made aware and that they know their electorate won’t condone neo-nazies in Sydney. Especially after the attack last night.

I’d love to see more of these projects get approval as it’s great both for an active city and to help reduce temperatures in the city. Personally I’ve toyed with the idea of removing the north shore line from Wynyard to Chatswood and replacing it with a light rail line + bike path. Would make for a pretty phenomenal cycling highway which could be quite heavily forested!

Really frustrating.

There are some important points raised by some of the councillors, namely the excessive car spaces to the proximity of public transport (though they do note that it is only a bus line so I’d be curious about capacity) and the reduction of affordable housing.

But it is frustrating to see the local Greens councillor trying to block the development in its entirety. The constant blocking of new development results in both the state government removing decision-making from local council resulting in construction not in line with local development and it forces the government to push for larger developments because it worsens the already short housing supply.

Agreed! Personally it’s always baffled me that we haven’t had more alfresco dining areas on the light rail line through the CBD! The lack of cars makes it such a nice route to walk when I’m in the city and even the delivery riders seem to stick to the light rail track keeping them out of pedestrian areas!

Hopefully this new policy helps make the CBD even more lively!
