This is a sort of energy we need to be bringing to the US World cup. Give the cops something to really worry about.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•If you are coming from Reddit: YSK that Lemmy and Piefed have no karma. Don't delete your posts.
10·13 hours agoThere’s bots on Lemmy that vote farm. There really is no sense to any of it.
I think that’s how the swingers movement started.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone go in for elective cosmetic surgery and come out looking better. There was end up looking like half melted shop mannequins.
Now he looks like he’s suffering from some bone wasting disease.
It’s from the darkest timeline.

11·17 hours agoYeah because he was born before the age of cars, what a dick head.
I have no idea what point he is trying to make other than we need to just accept AI. The thing is his analogy doesn’t work, you were never supposed to be playing in the streets, that was always where the cars went They’re just didn’t used to be as many cars.
Humans are supposed to be using their brains on the regular, offloading cognitive effort is just going to result in there being two classes of human, the brainless trolls that need an AI to think about anything at all, and the smart people who actually get things done. The AI companies are just trying to advance the brainless zombie class as much as possible.

11·1 day agoNo it’s not it’s pragmatism. Is it worth putting in all the effort to support Linux in a corporate environment that mostly runs on office suite applications?
If it was a 30 minute drop in solution then yeah by all means we can experiment with it and we can move over gradually but if it’s going to require an extensive project it’s not worth it. People complaining about this stuff don’t work in the corporate IT world, they live in idealised fantasy land.
If Linux was a sensible solution it would have been adopted years ago. No more licence fees, that gets the stuffed shirts happy.
There are probably loads of introverted trust fund babies that we never hear about. It’s just the loud mouth ones that get all the attention

2·2 days agoThe tones are real, but the generalizations are too general to be accurate.
I have no idea what that’s supposed to mean. The generalisations are the point, the tankies grouped together because everywhere else they are challenged. Lemmy only exist because they got kicked off Reddit for being asshats.
Everyone’s opinion has merit if anger isn’t involved.
If anger wasn’t involved tankies wouldn’t exist. They don’t operate on logic, they operate on emotion. That’s like saying that Genghis Khan was ok, as long as you ignore the murdering.
It keeps me out an echo chamber
I feel like maybe you haven’t really interacted with them very much. I’ll give you an example of an interaction with them.
You: it would be really nice of the Russians if they could just stop invading other countries.

If I have to attend the office once a week then I have to live within commutable range of the office, even an Uber is only practical within a certain distance range. If I’m 100% remote or can live wherever. I can leave somewhere cheap, I don’t have to live in the city.
It’s one day to them, it’s an entirely different life to me.

2·2 days agoUnfortunately the lemme admins tend to hang out on ML and they kind of do set the tone of the instance. If you just block that one instance the amount of tankies you have to deal with drastically decreases. If some innocent people get swept up in that block well oh well. It’s hardly the end of the world.

4·2 days agoI have no idea how IT is taught in schools these days, but there should be a lesson somewhere entitled Excel is not a database, don’t use it as a database.

It’s a little computer of course it can do maths. Where it struggles is working out what math to do, but so do humans.
If I need to work out what 12 out of 294 is as a percentage I just Google it. I can never remember the formula, the actual mathematics is not complicated, it’s the formula I can’t remember, and it’s the same with the AI.
