If I stick my finger in someone else’s but, will it be me with the finger stuck in the but, or that other person?

It’s not really hard to type a website, it’s rather hard to remember it. You remember your username. Okay. But where were you? mastodon dot what?
When you use your full address, it’s not that hard to remember it.
No, I don’t think it will go like that.
But if piracy would go away, then it would mean we live in a great world:
As long as those points are not achieved, there will always be a need for piracy, and people will always find new ways to get their content. So far, I do not see us being somewhere even close to that ideal world, so there are plenty of reasons for piracy to exist.
I personally try to pirate things more ethically, for example I try to buy music and games whenever I can, but I know several people that pirate stuff just because they can.
Something like that. I always heard it from my parents and grandparents that “it’s with fleas” or “you can see with fleas” when that happened. I never knew what was the link between those, but it sounds funny all the time, lol.
Friendica is really versatile. To get started, I’d suggest you watch @anubis2814a’s videos (on the tagged PeerTube account or on YouTube) in order to get used to all the functions on the platform. There’s also a Wiki on their website (and likely on the node you may choose) or you can post any question on !helpers
I cannot reply to a previous comment, due to it not federating here, but the children of 2020s will literally be online from day one!
There are countless parents that are posting pictures of their newborns on social media, on Instagram or Facebook, straight to a server in California, so imagine that every single person whose parents are like oh, I don’t care about privacy, I got nothing to hide bro will have at least one photo there.
And it’s not only that. They’ll just never get to experience how life goes with no computer in sight, with no smartphones, not even cellphones at all. No computer, and more importantly, no internet, just cartoons on TV such as Life with Louie or Courage the Cowardly Dog or the Looney Tunes series. And even more importantly, no social media. None at all. Nothing to distract you from actually living.
US-controlled and domiciled site - yes, but I do not see it having a monopoly on information at all. Sure is big, has lots of info, pages, it is a rather good resource in linking stuff to the various concepts that you want to explain others e.g. in an argument.
But the very fact that anyone can edit information makes it not recommendable in academia, for example (really, when I was a student, all my professors were generally not recommending it for information because, as one of them said, even grandma could edit it). So I don’t think I would trust ibis on scientific articles either, at least not in the fields I’m directly interested in - maybe for some random trivia/did you know stuff, idk.
limited / niche wikis
But this is where I think it would really shine, indeed, as one could make a wiki about a game or software more easily, probably link pages from different instances, etc. (as others said already).
Don’t know what else to say, it just seems like an interesting project. Congrats to anyone involved on this first release and looking forward to see what this project will bring.
I go to your wedding
I kinda get all the Threads worries and the fact that some people might not be comfortable with Meta collecting their data for advertising. But this is just insane. It just makes me think people are just irrationally angry at everything, and they like being that, instead of informing themselves about what everything does.
Probably they just want to use the same app they’re using for listening to music. Although I also have them both. And I love AntennaPod more for podcasts, plus there’s no tracking, and it’s just a different experience overall.
So the OPML file does handle the read status as well? isn’t it just a format to export and import feeds inside a reader?
Well, those who did not vote are complacent to the majority vote. So I’d say that’s a win.
Always go out there and vote, regardless of the option you choose. That’s what keeps a democratic system up and running. If you don’t, you just agree with what is decided by others and stay complacent.
I immediately thought about ChatGPT or some other AI assistant with GPT in its name as an alternative to Copilot, lol.
Can’t they add some sort of vegetation or something and make sure it’s watered as regularly as possible? Maybe something specific to the area (besides cactuses) that can keep more shade.
lemmy.ml
first time […] a mod didn’t like the viewpoint expressed.
Haha, wow, first time?
Welcome to this place. Lemmy.ml is notorious for being run by the actual tankies that created this project. See what they support, what they don’t, and have an opposite opinion on that. You will get the boys telling you how it acchually it is not and call you a glowie CIA agent or whatnot for not siding with them. The Reddit migration probably made them more accepting of opposite opinions, but probably because things have calmed down more a bit lately, they started aggressively moderating stances like yours and probably anti-Kremlin takes as well (seriously, before that, if you were against the Russian invasion in Ukraine or against China’s politics you would have been accused of being racist towards them - but hey, you can say whatever you want against the USA, or The West, you can’t be racist against these, can you?).
Anyway, here’s a longer take by FediTips that explains the issues with Lemmy:

Finally
This is the keyword for such a city. It should’ve gotten such a system already by now when reaching the first million. All these arab/middle eastern cities seem so extremely focused on car infrastructure to a rather disturbing degree. And all the carbrains I know think these cities are the pinacle of modern city development: all just gigantic glass skyscrapers and highways circling around them - nothing else.
Also, back on Facebook/Instagram, there’s not a single person who had the money to visit Dubai once and post pictures from there (at least that I’m aware of), that is not car brained. I’m sure they all use their car everywhere and nothing less, they could even be doing their basic shopping from the corner store with it, I think.
That’s why I set up 2FA on whatever account I can grab my hand on. It sucks that I cannot do it on every single one I have (e.g. some popular names like Spotify, last.fm, Bandcamp or Feedly do not support it, for example), but for every account that I do have, 2FA has become critical lately.
I know that, and I hate it. Yet, I do not know any other way to meet hot singles in my area (or not in my area).
