these tracks are in helsinki, and these are finnish trams, i think skoda may be exporting them to germany, and i don’t know what you guys do with them there, but these are pretty comfortable personally (even comparing to SBB trains, which travel so smoothly that it makes me dizzy, bc there’s very little sensory points of reference)

you’re most likely having a poor experience bc the tram tracks have fallen into disrepair, bc even comparatively old trams (from the 1970s and the like) can be pretty comfortable on proper tracks (take budapest, their fleet consist largely of older models, but due to good track maintenance and relative straightness of tracks themselves, it’s a pretty good experience)

not sure why you’re extrapolating your particular experience onto something so vast and vague as “public transport systems outside of china and singapore”, not to mention that a decent amount of comfort is a baseline that good systems of public transport operate off of, with accessibility, frequency and location being more important factors

  • your comment is clearly formulated in a way so that my reply to it should give my reasons why i believe russia is likely to invade ukraine, which isn’t bad in any way of course (formulation, not invasion), but, i’m afraid there’s not much i can offer besides the existing satellite pictures, convoy footage, articles and other news coverage, intelligence of other countries etc, which you no doubt have already seen

don’t get me wrong, i, more than anyone would like this whole thing to turn out to be a too-far-taken negotiating tactic for russia’s demands to stop expansion of nato, bc i have ukranian friends who are likely to get drafted, some of my closest friends in russia were at risk of being drafted even before this whole thing started, i myself could get drafted in the event of a war

i would be really happy to be able to look back at this comment in a year and laugh at how ridiculous this whole thing was, but, one thing we’ve learned is that we’ll never fail to be surprised by the kind of fucked up shit a crazy, nationalistic autocrat with zero oversight catering to a nationalistic population can do…

  • i didn’t snap any while there, but here are some pics of the place i found online that show you the vibe of the place

unfortunately over the last few years the place has been gradually transitioning from actual replacements parts for virtually whatever electronic part you have to mostly reselling cheap phone cases from china and regular retail shops, but there are definitely still a ton of shops that sell the kind of stuff shown in the pics

as for the keyboard, i really enjoyed assembling and soldering it all together (aside from all the trips I had to make in search of necessary components), and by itself i really like the way it turned out

there is definitely a transitional curve bc of how different the keyboard is to anything i used before that, but i almost immediately felt that the ergonomic benefits were worth it

split: very cool feature, a lot more comfortable than standard one-piece keyboards, not only for shoulder comfort and being able to angle individual halves better, but also bc you can put stuff between the halves and it’s convenient, plus, there’s virtually no learning curve to a split layout if you type the keys with the right fingers

otholinear layout: took a little bit of adjusting, but it’s more comfortable than a non-ortholinear layout, bc there’s very little left-to-right movement of fingers, which really puts strain on you

key columns adjusting for finger length (you can see that the middle column, which you’d type with your middle finger is further compared to the very-right column, which you’d type with your pinkey finger): helps in the sense that your fingers are more naturally positioned, none of them are overextended and none are bent too much, kind of like if you just lay your relaxed palm on a table

thumb clusters: easily one of the best changes, on a normal keyboard thumbs do almost nothing, but this layout takes advantage of their underutilizedness and strength, giving them useful functions

overall, i really like it, such niche kbs often turn out to be really expensive bc of low numbers sold, but given its quality i honestly think it wouldn’t have problems for decades to come, and the cables are definitely a hassle and I’m planning on getting the bluetooth controllers with batteries, which you can easily interchange with the current wired ones

  • the most infuriating aspect of electron, is is that multi-billion (and even multi-trillion) dollar corporations think it’s ok practice to release desktop clients using electron, like wtf, each one of them can hire ten teams to build ten completely new desktop toolkits, let alone just design their applications to use native system tools 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

  • as much as I’d like it to be this way, bullying irl doesn’t work very well, activism is typically more effecient

this doesn’t mean that you should be the “pick me vegan”, who constantly tries to seek validation from omnis by telling them that you’re a “chill” vegan and it’s a personal choice or some other nonsense

be assertive, but don’t just pointlessly insult, not that ominis don’t deserve insults, but hostility generally turns people away; ask them how do they feel about all the suffering that they cause, try the analogy with pets and “other” animals

little things like calling “meat” of certain animals “flesh” or pieces of <animal> can elevate their disgust over time

also, you probably need to know the basics before you confront people, so that you are easily able to refute their arguments that a non-knowledgeable in that area person might come up with on the spot

even there is no such thing as a veganism for health or environment, you could use these arguments, i.e. how vegans live a decade longer on average, have significantly lower rates of diseases like certain types of cancer, diabetes, atherosclerosis, cardiac diseases etc, tell them how incredibly inefficient animal agriculture is etc

but, as others mentioned, it depends a lot on the type of relation that you have with these people, you need to adjust your strategy on the fly, it’s different for every person, also it’s much easier to start gradually and then pile up…
